This is the last year the German govt will subsidize the race. The Green Party will not support it going forward. Without Bernie lowering the fee (unlikely) this track will no longer host a GP.

Any comments from our German chatters? Florian, DF1?

Well I hope not. The track is Waugh better than hockenheim.

The current Green party minister is putting this out. It will be interesting to see if she is able to keep this attitude only by herself.

She says this is Bernie's problem. Most European GP's are not viable on their own. We always hear that Spa will not happen etc and we still have a race.

The contract is through 2016 or so.

I agree with the minister. Bernie is ripping these countries off, including Australia with Melbourne.

It is time these ministers played hard ball and stopped letting him rip them off. Get the Le Mans series to race instead and tell F1 to go fnck themselves, ie. Bernie.

So once the European and Australian Minister all stop subsidizing the races we can finally enjoy a F1 series in each Middle Eastern and Eastern country run by a dictator. The possibilities are endless:

    GP of Saudi Arabia
    GP of Egypt
GP of Uganda (or whatever it is called)
    GP of North Korea
    GP of Venezuela
    GP of Ukraine
    GP of Tatschikistan
    GP of Rumania

I don't mind the Gp for Venezuela and romania. The grid girls should be interesting :)

I'd hate to see the Nürburgring GP go, but I have to agree that F1 racing is most likely the last thing tax money should be spent for. Especially as the Rhineland-Palatinate taxpayer has already sunk dozens of millions in the stupid theme park project at the Ring.

I read that a French GP at Paul Ricard at the end of August every 2nd year, alternating with the Belgian Grand Prix maybe on the cards.

Only IMO SPA should be on every year, without question.

I *thought* that looked like a good idea! Kind of like a year-round Le Mans attraction.

From your comment however, not so much it seems?

Did the good folk of Rhineland-Palatinate get a vote on the issue?

    Cheers,
    Ian

+1 on the Spa every year thing. I love the ring too so I want to see it every year. The middle east races are so freaking boring.

It has not been received well by some in town at all. Schmitz mother is not happy with the 'catastrophe' as she has stated.

Totally artifical (including the marketing) and very few, but oversized attractions. Like the *one* giant rollercoaster (which never worked yet AFAIK) - no one is driving out into the middle of nowhere where the Ring is just for a ride on one rollercoaster.
Then there's the "Eifel Village Green Hell" (in the ads they always print that full name) with a few totally oversized clubs. I don't know how many people they expected to drive there on a weekend just to go partying.
And we have the oversized (you see a pattern there!) shopping mall, which has roughly, hm, 10? stores despite its size. Even when there's a big racing event at the Ring, hardly anyone will go there. Just nothing to see or do.

Of course not! ;) Lots of shady things going on with the construction projects, too...
