    I am planning on doing a major service on my 308. Eventhough you don't need to take out the motor for the service. I still plan to, because its a lot easier to work on. Does anyone knoe if you can you a standard engine stand to put the motor on, or do you just put it on a bench, like the 355.

    We've put 308 QV engines on a Harbor Freight engine stand, no problem. When I pulled my engine on my old '78 GTS, we just put it onto a dolly to move it around rather than the engine stand. But then I wasn't opening up the engine pan or transmission pan. But if you are doing any work that will require you to rotate the engine and/or access the lower parts, best to mount it on an engine stand.

    A regular engine stand works fine if you plan to separate the engine and gearbox. You need something a bit different if you want to keep the pieces together. I built this one for less than $30 worth of materials... since you didn't fill in your profile, we have NO idea where you are but if you are in Northern California, I'll gladly loan it to you.

    That is nice, I also tend to favor the hydrolic tables. Its easier on the back when you can raise and lower the entire setup from 4" to 36". If the block is split from the transmission then any std. stand will work too.

    Very efficient. were did you purchase the hydrolic tables?.
