Looks like a fully grown Carpet Python. Now if it were an Amethystine...

I had a Hognose get loose in a Challenger in November last year. Found it (still alive) last month in the trunk.

Snakes are really cool, and once domesticated can make great pets. I had one when I was a kid, and he was awesome. This one was probably looking for some heat, and then bounced once the engine had cooled off.

You cannot domesticate that little pea brain animal. A pet python was caught in the middle of the process of swallowing a toddler when the pet's owner was away. Snakes are very useful animals but not as pets. In fact, even as animals they can be pests. Witness the swam of Florida now being run over by non-native pythons.

Okay, I guess some snakes aren't domesticatable; reticulated pythons comes to mind. And anything that's big enough to swallow a child probably shouldn't be in a cage in someone's living room.

Yes they are quite the nuisance in the everglades. Much worse, a pet squeezed a toddler to death here recently.

Domesticate is definitely not the right word. With regular interaction the vast majority will not be aggressive, but they'll always be wild animals.

That said, I disagree about them being bad pets. Things like Burms, Retics, etc have no business being sold at petshops to the clueless people that will simply buy them on a whim. Dogs kill plenty of people, too, and, much like snakes, it all boils down to irresponsible owners. Snakes like Ball Pythons, Rosy Boas, Hognose, etc make perfectly suitable pets for the average person.

+1 I own a ~2.5' long ball python who is great. He's very docile and overall just hangs out when you hold him. Has never bitten anyone, and could never grow up to be big enough to kill someone!
