My desktop at Ricambi today updated to Lion in about 45 minutes. Subtle improvements for sure.... but I'm not digging the changes to scroll functionality on my Magic Mouse!

    Anyone else updated yet?

Yeah it's going to take me a while to get use to the backwards scrolling on my macbook air. I'll have to relearn finder abit too, but overall pleased.

I downloaded over last night and installed it this morning... I like it!

I have the magic mouse too and was caught off guard by the reverse scrolling too... but I'm getting used to it! The idea it to make it the same as the iPad... just imagine your screen is an iPad and you're scrolling with your mouse as if you were touching the screen.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned.... but I changed mine back to the old scrolling style via the Settings.

That rocket ship thingy (whatever it is called) is quite nice.

Do you use an iPad? Give the scrolling a chance for a week or so. I like it.

Yes launchpad is nice. I organized all my apps and folders nicely. :)

I'm trying my best to get used to the reverse scrolling because I have an ipad & an iphone. But I also have windows machines at work which work normally so this might totally screw me up.

Upgraded Mrs. JRR's iMac tonight and it runs well.
Luca's iMac doesn't have enough memory for the upgrade.

So... for the princely sum of $165, I've just purchased from Crucial an 8GB upgrade for Mrs. JRR and a 4GB upgrade for Luca. Damn, memory is cheap !

I upgraded that day it came out going from Snow Leopard on my MBP (2010). The upgrade process was very nice. I typically do a fresh install, but thought I would give the upgrade a try. No need for a fresh install at all.

I really like some of the changes - I switched the scrolling thing, I use to many other PC's that have the "old" style of scrolling - to make the switch for 1 pc.

Outside of that one change, after a few days of playing with it now, getting everything set up the way I want it.

1.) I like how they implemented spaces (virtual desktops) in Lion, more so that I did in the standard Linux way in Snow leopard. It seems more intuitive, just flicking left or right for moving between desktops. Very cool.

2.) I like how (with a hack) that it supports Trim on my 256gb SSD (non apple). Much faster than it was even with Snow Leopard.

3.) I like that it is really not any "fatter" than what snow leopard was... I thought I would be taking up much more disk space, but It did not.

4.) I like the full screen apps, however I am not sure why they decided that each full screen app gets it own "space". I think it makes sense when full screen, but makes you bounce around a bit when you have a few open and want to minimize and have them all on one page quickly.

5.) The launch pad interface (think iphone or ipad), I really like. I have got them all in the folders I want via the launch pad interface. So much so, that I have removed my Apps folder from my dock - no need to have that folder at all any more.

6.) I think I could almost not have the dock. If you could just make your home space the launch pad - again think Ipad screen, you don't really need the dock at all.

7.) Mail and Calendar still are not as good as Outlook 2011 for Mac, they are better and I did give them 2 days of trying to use them instead of Outlook. I am still using outlook, even for just personal mail.

Overall I would say they did a fine job. I was on the beta/developers program, so got to play with it over the past several months. It was pretty rough even 30 days ago. They really did a nice job tightening it up significantly for go live.

Like any new OS, there are issues; VPNs, Adobe products, Quicken and Quickbooks, printer drivers, and lets not start talking about the new Final Cut Pro X....

If you buy it now expect conflicts. I'm going to wait a month or so to see what shakes out, I'm in no hurry.

Unless Adobe/Apple can resolve the conflicts, my mac pro for CS will never be updated.

Picked up the new MacBook Air last night and so far I am totally thrilled with both the HW and SW.

I'm not sure if this is a Lion feature or not but you can now share an optical drive from another Mac or PC to the Air...with the Air, this is indespensible for loading SW that only comes in a box unless you really enjoy carrying around a Superdrive just for the Air.

The only thing that is annoying so far about the Air/Lion is that every time I wake the machine from sleep, it takes waaay too long to reconnect to the wi-fi network. Causes multiple hangups and such.

The Air is amazing...so freaking fast... I went with i7 proc and 256 GB of Flash "drive".

You can change the scrolling direction back to normal (or non iPad style) in system preferences.

Question for you Mac experts out there:

My parents have an old iMac that has OS 10.4.11 (Tiger?)

It has an Intel Core Duo with 1 GB of RAM.

I wanted to upgrade it to Lion but apparently you cannot get the App store on that version of the OS... and that's the only way to get it?

If your machine will support it, go buy the Snow Leopard upgrade disk at Best Buy for $40. After that upgrade the App Store is available. I did that on my early Macbook Pro (along with more RAM, new faster hybrid hard drive, etc).

You'll need a lot more RAM.

So I have to pay $70 to upgrade??? Seems silly to pay for snow lepord just to replace it?

And ram is pretty easy to upgrade in an iMac, yes?

If you have a more up to date Mac around, you could always download Lion to a USB drive and install it on your computer and your parent's computer (Apple allows for a liberal use of licenses). If not, it seems like that may be the way to go, as Apple will be releasing Lion on DVD next month, but it'll be around $70 anyway.

Outrageously easy. I did two iMacs in about 10 minutes. No kidding.

My son's iMac from 1GB to 4GB, and my wife's went from 2GB to 8GB. Both are much faster now. (She keeps like 20 Chrome tabs open at any given time. My uses a lot of iTunes video and some small games on PBS kids). Both on Lion now. Easy peasy.

My wife is a Apple tech and we have been using Lion now for awhile and I guess it is worth it? Everything seems to be Apps now. It's odd. Also for the person who mentioned RAM, do not buy directly from Apple their prices are 2.5x more then they should be. Buy Kingston, which is Apples source for replacement memory and a heck of a lot cheaper.

I got my RAM from Crucial.com I didn't shop around, the price just seemed reasonable and the on-line shopping experience was good.
