I inspected #3829 for a potential purchaser in Greece last year. I am very familiar with all the details, as the car is missing it's engine and transmission assembly. But, fortunately, I do know where it is! The current owner wasn't co-operative with the price, therefore, the deal didn't go forward.

almost had a deal 20 years ago, but didn't go with the numbers i've been asked! it's the history the car has, cause it was Onassis and Kokotas car!! the engine and trans was missing from those days, but been told that the car was going to come with it back then!

The present owner sent the engine assembly out for a rebuild, and never paid for the work. The shop that has it really would like to get paid with interest after 20 plus years! Not an unreasonable request. The owner does not want to pay. ( or can not pay).

Sounds like there could be a major dispute here that may prevent the car and its drivetrain from ever being reunited. It's a shame.

This dispute can be rapidly cured by money......maybe a little too much money for what it's worth!

I wonder how much money is preventing the reunion? Would the engine need fresh attention after not being run for 20 years, even though rebuilt?

Yes, I am sure it would, as rings will fatigue, valves that are open will have collapsed weak springs, and who knows if the valve seats were changed to steel, as there were no concerns about not running gasoline with lead back then, as unleaded fuel didn't exist!

FWIW a "factory" restoration is just an expression. Restorations are done by privateers that the factory is friendly with. For example Top Motors in Nonantola. Your observations are correct.

Thanks, Joe. Yes, I'd learned previously from you here and in your book to take the words 'factory restored/restoration' with a pinch of salt but it should not be allowed to say a car has been 'factory restored' if indeed it has not been, and in the case of a Lamborghini, 'Factory Restored' should mean inside the confines of the Automobili Lamborghini Factory at Saint Agata. Are any cars restored at the Lamborghini Factory?

    Not likely.
Id say it was simply overlooked, or they didn't want to bother welding up the holes and moving the badge over. The factory has an SV to look at for comparison, although having said that, the "S" badge on their own car was installed upside-down.

SV c/n 4806 here with round tail pipes, black sourrounds and divisions on the rear lights instead of chrome and no? honeycombe grille or Lamborghini Script. It also has a couple of chrome fasteners or bolts on the top of the rear clam near the roof. Is this how it was born at the factory?

Did the Prototype SV c/n 4856 have a standard Miura (P400 or P400S), non SV width rear clam with SV lights and 9" rear wheels? Probably my eyes.

Actually, just found out that the above car is not the SV Prototype. Got the c/n 4856 number from the Miura 40th Anniversary Get Together thread. The correct information was courtesy of Mr Sackey in another thread after doing a search on '4856' on this site.

You have excellent eyes: this car is a P400 that lived in the USA not modified by the works until 1973 clearly using an early non-SV rear clam-shell, and therefore its prototype status is mistakenly claimed.

    4806 is - how shall I put this delicately? - a post-production privateer modification.

Thanks, Joe. I thought the car in the pic was the SV Prototype as it was referred to as such in another thread. Just seen a pic of the Prototype that was recently auctioned and it has the wide SV clam.
