I am here in Denver visiting some family and thought about swinging by FoD to look at a couple of 348's they have. I am the very early stages of beinning to look at cars. How is the staff there to deal with? Anything else i need to check out why I am here?

I only had dealings with the service dept(they borrowed my Espada service book), and they swapped shims for my Mondial. always helpful, and don't rush you. I think they would be fine for a new or used car purchase.

Derek is a great guy to deal with, bought several cars from him.. The yellow 348 they have on the floor is essentially restored and well sorted out..

    Welcome to Denver :)

I highly recommend running by FoD - There are some amazing cars to look at and the ownership and staff are very friendly and welcoming. I can tell you that I spent years just visiting FoD before getting serious and looking at cars to purchase and then finally purchasing my 355 from them in January.

Derek is awesome and so is Mark. I work right down the street and am in there often. The Giallo 348 is absolutely immaculate - I am sorely tempted to buy it as a garage mate to my Giallo 355 - it is by far one of the nicest, cleanest 348s I have seen and I believe the FoD history with it is pretty extensive.

The Rossa Corsa one is not bad but has some rough spots. Both are nice but the Giallo one is definitely the nicer of the two.

Let me know if you need/want any recommendations for restaurants etc. while in town.

    Cheers :)

Cool - not hyper-familiar with that area but here are a few "general" recommendations:

Steakhouse/Nice Dinner => Del Friscos (I-25 and Orchard)
Wine Bar/Tapas => Vines (Corner of Parker Road and Mainstreet)
Thai Food => Any Thai Basil (yes they are a chain but incredible Thai and sushi)
Nice Drives => Highway 85 south - cut off and go through Sedalia / Golden Gate Canyon / I-25 north to Highway 66 - head west and run up to Stanley Hotel / 6th through Golden and head up to BlackHawk - great canyon drive and if you want to gamble there are plenty of spots - if you don't, eat at Farradays in the Isle of Capri - worth the drive up.

Hope this helps - If you are looking for specifics let me know or I am sure other Colorado folks will chime in.

    Cheers

Thanks! We drove 119 from Boulder to Nederland to Blackhawk to 6 then to Golden yesterday. very nice drive. Too bad we were in a rental. I bet it is killer in a F-car.

Nope - totally sucks in a Ferrari - no fun at all - no turns - no scenery - no "passing lanes" - I would much rather do it in a rental car or preferably a mini-van....

<kidding - just trying to make you feel better>

Glad you had a good drive... and yes - it is killer in a Ferrari :)

I am the owner of The Motorsports Gallery downtown Denver and take it from me they have a very good staff. They have always taken care of me on the service end very well. This is a big compliment because many many, I mean majority of Ferrari dealers do not want to work with Highline independnet dealers such as myself.

I'm new to this forum and wanted to say hello to the posters and thank you for all the valuable information available here. My wife and I have decided that we can finally afford to buy (and maintain) a Ferrari, so I've had a great time reading through the reviews, comments and recommendations on this site.

We've lived in Colorado for quite a while and I'd driven by Ferrari of Denver many times but had never stopped in. Or visited any other Ferrari dealer for that matter. Now that we're actually getting serious about shopping, I contacted them to arrange to take a look at the above-mentioned red and yellow 348s. (The 355 that I'd really hoped to see had been sold a week earlier.) Even though we were clearly just in the initial stages of looking and it was probably clear that all my knowledge was from what I've read here and in the buyer's guides, etc., the sales rep. treated us well, showed us multiple cars, answered our questions and didn't rush us.

Both of the 348s looked to be in amazing condition to me. I had to look closely to see any cosmetic flaws in the red one, and I gave up looking for any on the yellow one. Unfortunately, my wife decided that the late '80s interior and features and lack of airbags wouldn't work for her. For me, since my daily drivers for the last 14 years have been my '87 Alfa spider and an '89 Toyota All-Trac wagon, I felt at home and glad to see that there were bits that it looked like I could actually work on. If it was entirely up to me, I'd likely prefer a 328 or perhaps a 308 for that reason.

The next logical step was to wander over to the silver 360 on the floor. Much more to her liking, but instant doubling of required budget. And outside, we checked out a very nice (and much lower cost) Maserati GranSport. I'd not seen a Lotus Evora up close either, and was surprised to see how much better the one there looked in person than in pix. We went home and pondered making an offer on the Maserati, which generally gets very good reviews here and on MaseratiChat. We decided instead to take more time, shop and compare, and learn. That's a good part of the fun anyway.

We might pay a visit to the next Cars and Coffee meet in Lafayette in the hopes that a 355 will be there.

If anyone wants to trade their F-car for a nice black Alfa Spider Quadrifoglio (and cash), let me know!

    Jim

Jim, welcome. Take your time reading about stuff on this site. The amount of information you can learn is immense. All I would say is before you ask a specific question, do a search, as it has likely been asked before and the post police are pretty harsh here.

Regarding 360, cast a wide net. You may find a nice one for less than you think. There's nothing wrong with a well maintained high mileage Ferrari.

My wife says the same thing about my no airbag 328, kind of scary for her to feel totally safe in.

    Jim,
Shopping is great fun, especially for the first. If you have been reading here a while, you already know that 348s and 355s are the most expensive V8s to maintain. So, study carefully and enjoy the search. You can talk to Jeff (service manager) at FOD about the various models to get first hand info.

    Good luck,
    Dave

    Furman and Dave,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I suspect I'm following the typical progression a lot of folks take in starting off with a preference for the 355's looks but eventually leaning more toward the 360 based on reliability, maintenance costs, and refinement. One thing I'm really wondering about though is how many Ferrari owners use their cars for moderately long road trips. Say, from Denver to Yellowstone. I wonder if that definition of reliability - not breaking down in the middle of Wyoming half way between Lander and the Grand Tetons - is something that I shouldn't expect from a Ferrari (vs., say, a Porsche). I should ask this in a separate post and not clutter up this Ferrari of Denver thread though.

Not to worry. I've owned 8 of them over the last 15 years, 7 used, one new and none ever left me on the side of the road. But you may want to put this in another section.
