Hello, i am a new member on this forum and i'm planning to buy a 355. I do not know much about the car yet so i thought let's take a look there where the knowlegde is :)

When i'm looking at the advertisings on the internet it looks like that there are differend kinds of red. Is that just me imaging or is there more than 1 red color on the F355 ?

Another question i have is if there is a differnce of road behavior between the Berlinetta and the Spider ? Oversteer, Understeer..

Maybe some tips what to look at buying a F355 :)

Buying a Ferrari is a long time dream for me and to be able to buy a 355 i have sell my other love, my Ducati SP5. It will be hard to see here go but i know i get another great red Italian instead..

    gr, Passie

There are at least 3 shades of red that I'm aware of for the F355:

    1) Rossa Corsa (the one you see most often)
    2) Rossa Barchetta - I'd call it wine-red
    3) Rossa Rubino - a brighter version of Barchetta; well, like a Ruby ;)

Do a search here in the forums and on Google; you will find an abundance of info to help you select the perfect F355. For sure there is a handling difference with the Berlinetta vs the Spider. The Spider will exhibit considerably more flex and cowl shake when driven moderately hard. Unless you plan to track your F355 though, you will be happy with either version. Why not split the difference and get the GTS?

First - Welcome to FerrariChat :)

As usual, Rick was spot-on with his assessment of the various reds. I think (not sure) but there may have been a few additional variations available in the later years but for the most part his descriptions cover all the major variations.

As far as the model variations, it is really a matter of preference. The handling characteristics Rick outlined are accurate. There are some additional complexities and potential additional maintenance costs associated with the Spiders given the rather complex top mechanism and some people are surprised to find the seats moving forward when putting the top down so be aware.

May people feel the lines of the 355 are compromised as well with the Spider but again a matter of taste.

Not sure of your size but there are some minor but important differences with regard to seat travel and headroom. For example, Spiders and Berlinettas will have slightly less headroom due to headliner. Additionally, seat travel is slightly better in the 1995 cars due to them having the Motronic 2.7 versus 5.2 - the latter requiring a "box" mounting which intrudes slightly behind the driver's seat. If you are less that 6' tall this is really a non-issue.

As mentioned - search through the threads and you will find a WEALTH of information on 355s. You will also read some horror stories that will scare you off - while these may be true accounts there are also many stories of good reliability and years/miles of enjoyment. 355's are notorious for some mechanical maladies, sticky parts etc. and they do require expensive maintenance so factor all these things in but don't get scared off if that is indeed your dream car.

I could have bought a 360 or stretched to a 430 and I, too traded my flawless 2005 997/911 Porsche and my flawless Ducati SportClassic for EXACTLY what I wanted which was the 355 and could not be happier.

Enjoy and welcome. You will find most people on here extremely knowledgable, willing to assist and welcoming you to the "brotherhood".

    Cheers :)

There may be a change in the paint code for a specific color depending on whether Glasurit paint was used or PPG paint. This may be different for Europe though. I am only referring to what happened in the U.S. I believe 1997 may have been the last year for Glasurit.

Regarding your Ducati SP5, is it an 888 or an 851?

Man, Giallo looks so hot on a F355. Please don't ever paint the top - looks perfect. Really nice photo too - did you take it yourself?

Seems as though I mixed up Rubino and Fiorano. I know they had "Rubino" but I guess it was a different model. Those all look like genuine Ferrari paint codes. The thing that has me scratching my head is that there are 2 Rosso Corsa paint codes. Hadn't seen that before...

I know it's challenging - but try your best to see the cars "in the flesh". Between crummy photographs on the Internet and mis-calibrated monitors, the colors on the screen can be quite deceiving.

Barchetta is an awesome color...m5Guy should know! If you want red but don't want to be just like all the others then Barchetta is a beautiful choice, very classy.

My best advice is to run as fast as you can from this section of the site. There is very little posted here except horror stories with moderatly interspersed useful information. If you own a 355 this section will make you afraid to drive it, if you don't own one this section will convince you never to buy one. Fortunately I bought first then found this section. I read it till I regretted my purchase, recovered, and now only read some of the posts that seem positive. This section is like the evening news, only bad news. I love my 355.

Lol, it's sad but sorta true.

That said, c'mon Eli...I've lost track of how many videos I've posted featuring hot girls and bouncing F355 tach needles by now. If that's not enough to get someone enthused about ownership, I don't know what to do.

    :)

It is 888, SP3, SP4, SP4s and SP5 are all 888, however SP3 has 851 decals it is also an 888.. the SP5 is the last homologation special Ducati build in the 851/888 model. It's nr 226 of 500 build.

Send me a PM with your asking price and details. As you can see from my user profile, I've owned a few Ducatis over the years. There are several collectors in California who may be interested. The SP5 is a rare bike here and the only one I can think of that sold recently came from the Otis Chandler Museum.

To you sir my hat is off. But for your videos I stand by my comments. Sometimes I look at all the women you let drive your car and I take comfort in the fact that if you let them drive and they don't break it, I won't break mine. Keep up the support for the 355. A great car ment to be driven and enjoyed.

I just stumbled across this thread while trying to refresh my memory on how many Hyperion Blue cars were built. When I tried to connect with the 355 registry, I couldn't. I thought nothing ever died on the 'net. Ideas??
