cd doesn't work

Got into the car today and CD screen is fixed on "pause" and appears disconnected since the radio works and the screen says "no discs"when I have been listening to the 6 cd's for 6 mo.
In the glove compartment is a thick black cable which has been there all the time one end of which is attached behind the cd changer and the hanging end unplugged.
1) ideas?
2) do you guys have such a cable set up in the glove compartment?

Is it the iPod cable. If not it's the cable you use to load music on the hd via USB

Have you tried to unload the discs?

Diagnosing a cd player is a pain, due to the different decision path that you can go depending on the outcome of each type of command that you can or can not execute.

You know that the main button puts the cd in a pause and unpause right?

Try the volume button if that doesn't work just push really hard on the loud peddle, and listen to the sub woofer directly behind you, that should work.
