As some one in the event marketing business I am always curious as to what type of automotive event might be missing for the enthusiast in the Midwest? Concour, social, driving, racing? Everyone content with events in their backyard or within driving distance? I think of more local, social events in the region, but I am new.

    Thanks

I hear you on that... What a mess of the structure of Gateway...... It sounded like early in the year there where a few interested parties, but with the web of ownership and liabilities, not inviting at all.. I would say Chris Pook and company where the ones that made out in the whole deal...Maybe in another year, Dover, the county and other invested parties will forgive more of the expenses associated with the properties..

The thriving metropolis of Carbondale... Born, raised and came back a few years ago to be closer to family...Struggle a little with the lack of automotive and motorsports activities in the backyard but not to far from the STL area to get involved with.. Heading to Mid Ohio next week for the IRL/ALMS weekend....

Let's rent a bulldozer and get a six pack of subarus. We don't have to wait for someone else to do something.

    Andy,

You are correct on lack of racing facilities at least near to St. Louis. There is Putnam Park near Indy that some club members have used. The Chicago crowd uses Road America and Gingerman. Heartland is somewhere in Kansas. If Doug, Champagne 612, had been able to attend last Saturday he could have talked some about Gateway - he had mentioned in the past how he was looking at it for acquisition.

I don't see any big time Concours around here. No Pebble Beach/Amelia Island/Meadowbrook level event with national level judging. As for our Ferrari world we have members in the area with Platinum judged cars but not an event around here that hosts a high level concours and certainly not to the official judging standard. [I have a 2 year old set of judging guidelines and have been briefed on their thinking] At least in our local Ferrari crowd not sure we have enough interest to even attempt a higher level showing. [Another aside - we do have a local member with multiple Platinum level cars but they are kept with the restoration shop in Wisconsin]

i think this is a great idea, and i would tend to disagree with you that there isn't enough interest around town to attempt something like this. with the things we have around town, such as mark hyman's dealership, we have access to knowledge that could help get something like this going. being basically in the middle of the country could help, to where it would be somewhat easier to get to, but the only issue is breaking into something like that, with so many other established concourses.

I don't think there is enough cars in the midwest to have a grand concours. There are many smaller concours Art of the Car Concours in Kansas City, Salisbury Concours in Des Moines, the smaller Concours d'Elegance In Forest Park in St Louis and they all have to a great deal of work to show new cars every year.

For the first time, we have introduced a concourse at Crescent Classic.

The Basin Parc Ferme Concourse de Elegance is sponsored by Cavallino Magazine, with John and Alicia Barnes presiding over the event.

Cavallino Classic is the most respected Ferrari concourse in the world, so we feel honored to have John and Alicia attending Crescent Classic.
