This may take some fun out of the exercise, but I found the Ferrari 308 page on the Internet Movie Cars Database...

Well without looking at imcdb, I saw two relatively obscure ones this past week watching Get Shorty, great movie even without the Ferraris. The easy one is a yellow 308 in Martin Weir's (Danny DeVito) courtyard, and the tough one is while they are driving you see a red Mondial in the background.

The Pursuit of Happyness had a 308 in it and it belonged to an F-Chatter. How cool is that.

"Undoubtedly the most beautiful car in the world."

I agree that a 3x8 is a beautiful car but I couldn't give it that title. Even Enzo said that title belonged to the E-Type...

I'd put it at #4 in the (fairly) modern era, if one allows a race cars to be in the contest or 2 if they are not.

    E type (series 1), 250 GTO, Ford GT40 (original), 3x8.

A little off topic but, when I first saw this movie and saw the 308, I had 2 thoughts:

    #1: That's a 308!!!

#2: Why did they pick a 308? Will Smith's character sees the car and make a comment to the driver like, "what do you do for a living that allows you to drive a car like this?" There are far more expensive cars they could have picked.

Because for the early/mid 1980s that was THE car to get in the US. About the only thing that would have drawn more attention would have been a Lambo Countach. The 512s werent legally imported and the Testarossa had yet to appear during the time frame that scene takes place. There were no other real supercars on the planet. The 308 was simply the newest, latest, hottest thing out there - something that gets overlooked today.

Oddly enough the 308 was what inspired Chris Gardner (author of The Pursuit of Happyness) to become a stock broker.

"A pivotal moment in his life occurred, after a sales call to a San Francisco General Hospital, when he encountered an impeccably-dressed man in a red Ferrari. Curious, Gardner asked the man about his career. The man told him he was a stock broker and, from that moment on, Gardner's career path was decided. Eventually, Gardner bought a Ferrari of his own from the famous basketball player, Michael Jordan. The Illinois license plate of Gardner's black Ferrari reads "NOT MJ".

There was also a period of time in the early 1980s when Countaches were not officially imported into the USA (so I believe any from around 1980-1984 that are in the USA are gray market cars). Lamborghini officially imported (and made) U.S. Spec Countaches again with the introduction of the 5000S QV in 1985 (just in time to do battle with the Testarossa).

    Best regards,
    Dino

Sorry if this got mentioned already and I missed them. 308's are also in Cannon ball run, The Devils Double and in the extended version of Billy Madison.
