scheduled pick up for 7/21, cancelled. Postponed to 8/2 So those of you i was scheduled to meet along the way back will just have to wait to meet my greatness for another 10 days This actually will work out better, no 5 day deadline to get back, hopefully better weather than forecast for this week = more driving time with the top down along the BRP with my little girl. Plus there's a scheduled land auction on Lake James, i just may pick up a few acres on the way home. Most importantly, my car will be done completely without the rush to get it done today.
I'm trying Gr. Now I hear after test driving that the tach is wack. Meaning above 2k RPM's it starts to bounce all over the place. Bradan wants to overnight it to a place in California who rebuilds them and then reinstall it. I'm just not sure it can be done in time for the 8/2 pick up and I'd rather have a wacky tach then no tach at all because I'm driving it away no matter what At this point I don't know what to do? I wonder if the tach will correct itself after a few hundred miles and live with it regardless to just get it fixed when I get home. (??) Isn't there a place on the east coast that rebuilds these things? The saga continues
I wouldn't take it with a bad tach. Even though you can use the spedo for redline shift points 40/60/90/120 it might be a crank sensor which could lead to other troubles down the road. Especially considering you have had the gold kit installed. Make sure everything electrical is perfect before you take delivery!!! Dave Edit: Probably not a crank sensor but as Michael mentions below it could be external to the tack itself. Possibly easy to find or possibly an electrical nightmare. I have also heard voltage issues can mess with the tach.
The two best joints for instruments is Palto Alto & North Hollywood - Both West Coast. Sorry. But... Wacky Tach could be ground - especially if it happened just after a major. So easy to remove. I would say get the car & pull it yourself some other day. I would bet that us guys will help you with the instructions & how to.
Yes Ted, hang in there! I just returned from a week of driving the Mondial every day and except for the hot drive home last night, I've had trouble getting the smile off my face. And if something happens once you do take delivery, just hang in there. It took me a major and then two breakdowns, two AAA tows to the shop and several grand after the major over the first year of ownership to sort her out, so that now I can say 500+ miles over this past week, what a fabulous car. I even went out to dinner with my wife and another couple, only to return to a note on her with someone wanting to buy my Mondial. It drives great, sounds great, looks great and makes you feel great. It will be worth it in the end. FWIW, for what you're spending, I do think you want to have the car leave the shop with all systems functioning as best they can.
Ted - I saw your car run on Sat/Sun morning! She started right away and sounds wonderful. I saw the tach jump - not something you want to drive with, I promise. We both have motivation to see you in your car - Daniel won't start mine until yours is delivered Erik
Best news all day. Actually it may, may not be the tach, i've got Dave Helms (SRI) looking into it because of my GCK and it might be a simple fix or maybe not and then well hell i'll just put this trip on definate hold. i think SWA is getting a little tired of me changing flights all the time, but as long as the FAA is shut down its a bit cheaper. So get in line buddy Mr. I want better sound more than i want to be cool ha ...and no you cant have your tire back. lol
The Tach was next day aired to NH Speedometer with a promise of a 2 day turn round. With hopes it will be back at Bradan on Friday and ready to go on Monday. XX fingers crossed. As of now, we are still on for a tuesday pick up. 2 very helpful service places for gauges: Moma mfg in New Mexico - Margret is a great lady to deal with, very knowledgeable NH speedometer - Valdek, very helpful and genuinely concerned! So far all the aftermarket parts places i've had to deal with for my Ferrari have been GREAT! Scuderia Rampante - Dave Helms, wow, Top Notch! Ricambi America - Daniel, very helpful!!

Great thread....Thanks Brandan for documenting the service so well. Ted, you have a keeper there....when are you picking it up? dave
What a great picture...I recognise the scene perfectly...his daughter already has the antenna up and is looking for a radio station....Ted will say "OK but keep the volume down so I can hear the engine" and daughter will say "aww Dad this is a good song...!" and they will both remember this day for the rest of their lives... Dave
LOL..I just had this exact same experience!!! Picked up the Ferrari with my little girl after the A/C got fixed. We drove home with the A/C blaring, and crappy radio screaming "save me san francisco" Although I could barely hear the engine with the top up over the A/C at max and the radio, my daughter was having a blast as we just enjoyed the drive. Valenzo, I am so glad things worked out, and I am really happy you let Braden do their thing and had the patience to wait until the car was 100%. These cars are so much more rewarding when you are not frustrated by a niggling little problem. You are about to find out the best kept secret in the Ferrari world. Enjoy the car and PLEASE update us on every memory you create. Viva Mondial
I'm doing this on my slow a** blackberry so I will keep this short. We've made it to an applebees just outside of Charlotte, NC. (my daughter was craving ribs and it was open). We just hit 1000 miles on the trip OD in 2 days and the car is exciting and scary all in one, I'll elaborate on that later. Quick question before getting back to the ribs... We hit a little rain today for the first time and I can't stop the wipers, there are 5 positions and none stop them so I've been stopping them by keeping the lever in between positions when they reach the bottom. Which position is the stop? I will tell you all about the trip with pics and I have many questions. I'll probably start a seperate thread for it. Tomorrow I meet up with the Asheville FCA crowd for some greets. Be back soon.
Joe, My A/C is no longer working so its been hot but bareable with the top down, praying for no rain. I'm going to need an Ferrari A/C specialist and your guy seems to know what he's doing. I may need his contact info. If I have to, send my car to him.
