Wasn't September always the usual date for switching the focus to the new car? You simply need a lot of time developing it. It's only the additional races making the season longer compared to earlier years that puts that point in time earlier into the season...

Yes disappointing considering I thought this would be a Ferrari year after testing.

Thats what i'm pissed about. Every year we hear the same thing from Ferrari at mid season : we're focusing on next season now.

Problem is, the results aren't there at all. I can't imagine how much of hopes i had for this season, and how bad this season actually is.

More non news... every team (no exceprions) has to start work on next years car as soon as the tech regs are defined and certainly no later than the end of summer. Even the invincible RB team will be doing this.

    Yup.

In June they normally have the first "drawings" on the computer. By September the pieces are being "baked" in the autoclave. Just the normal way things happen for every team.

What this really means is that the teams might be using the remaining races as tests for new ideas of the 2012 car. Of course they won't announce this and we won't have enough insight to realize it but think that's just another development for the current car.

This is like the Ferrari of old... circa 1980's... to those of you who only remember the Schumacher years... this will be a shock... but for us old timers... this is more like the normal course of events. Mr. Ferrari would get pissed at all the press, shut down the factory communications and then focus on "next year" - which meant change in team, drivers etc...

Something is completely amiss at Ferrari... Jean Todt's team would fight till the last race if it was mathematically possible to win the championship.
