Brian Willis was involved in a very serious accident, this afternoon at RD Atlanta, during a NASA race. On the cool down lap, after his race, at turn 7, a Mustang , from initial reports, and from a stewards' comment to us, literally ran over his C Sports car. Brian was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, he was reportedly conscious at the time. This was around 3:30 PM.
At 6PM he is reported to be in Stable condition.
This is all we know at this time.
    His car is totaled !

Just spoke with Brian's brother who is with him at the hospital. He was concious and talking although they are going to admit him due to a severe concussion and facial fractures. They are waiting for a specialist consult, but so far the long term prognosis looks good. Please do keep him in your prayers....

wow, that's awful. Here's to a speedy recovery.

shame about the car, brand new and it was a real gem.

any word as to the cause of the crash? Driver error, parts failure, etc.

and why were a Mustang and C sports racer on the track at the same time? Sometimes NASA makes me wonder.

NASA has a class called Thunder - its for big HP cars, and or prototype cars.

Officals stated the Brian went off the track - spun facing turn 7, at that moment a Mustang went off same turn at high rate of speed.. and lept over the Norma that Brian was racing.

The car is badly damaged, and I have to say the NASA officals were very poorly equiped to communicate - it seemed that nobody knew what was happening. NASA impounded the car, shortly after the accident, but we got to check it over briefly - they opend the door for those of us in his crew - i fear its a total write off.... So glad that he is alive!

Hope the safety equipment did their job.

We should find which hospital Brian is at and all meetup there and park under his rooms windows and all rev our engines in support.

hope he is ok w/ no long term effects. too bad abou the car but in the big scheme of things the car dosn't matter. earlier this week a nascar driver was testing and hit the turn 7 wall head on at 100mph. at least he walked away.

If we can find which room he's in and which side of the building we could do it this week?
If he's been discharged we could meetup outside his home and have a rev and honk fest.

If he's not reading the forum posts we could do this as a surprise flash mob type of thing.

    Maybe even tonight Sunday?

While this is a cool idea, AMC does not have parking next to the hospital. Its a parking garage away from Pt. Rooms. AMC is a client of mine, so I know the hospital well.

the only place where the rooms face any type of parking is next to helipad, and exit from the parking garage... the emergency room has a parking slot only for Dr. & ambulance... maybe do a video and send it to him & post on Utube?

I spent a good part of the afternoon at AMC with Brian & his brother. Brian was asleep for most of it but when he was awake he said he wasn't feeling any pain. We'll know more tomorrow and keep you all updated.

Thanks for all the kind words for Brian, I know it'll mean a lot when he reads the posts.
