I've been a member of this site for a few months - love the quality of the community and the discussions, but wanted to ask: Why does the site software suck so much?

I tend to read pretty quickly and consume pages at a rapid pace. On any other forum, it's no big deal. On FerrariChat, the software or site settings seem to throttle access. After reading about 10 pages or so in a session, I get a connection error that prevents me from seeing any more pages until an hour or so has passed.

What a terrible experience...I can't imagine how many page views the site owners are losing if they've made an intentional choice to throttle access. Is there a way to get around this limitation?

    Thanks Wax,

I'm running Windows 7, with Internet Explorer 9. The timeouts happen at all times of the day - it doesn't matter if I'm on my work or home network.

If I open say, 8 or 10 pages relatively quickly, any subsequent page requests seem to be blocked for about an hour or so. Seems like a bandwidth throttling issue. It's like there's a setting in your site software that throttles how many page requests a specific IP can ask for in a given time interval.

If this is a site-wide setting, you save on bandwidth and serving costs, but that comes at a price. At the end of the day, I'm not sure you're saving anything since you might be losing 25% to 50% of the page views you could otherwise be getting on FerrariChat (along with all of the corresponding ad revenue and user engagement).

    Thanks for looking into this!

The problem may be on your end, I just opened up 15 different F-Chat pages and haven't had any problems. Good luck getting it resolved.

Try doing the same thing while running Firefox instead of MS IE.

I switched to Firefox a few years ago and have been a lot happier ever since.

just a note; 2 different Macs running last v. OS before whatever the new new one is at 2 different locations (connections): typical to have the same lockups after 10 - 15 threadviews; if I leave and return within 1/2 hour things go OK again, then the same.....

I just assume my SO has a valve on the FChat hose; she carefully turns off the tap to get me to move along.......

Oh heck... don't let her meet my wife. My wife would love one of those valves! :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

It sounds like tritone is experiencing similar symptoms on a Mac. As much as we can rag on Internet Explorer as being the cause, I don't experience this behavior on other vBulletin sites.

Anyhow, thanks for hearing me out. I guess I'll just read 5 pages at a time. I'll give Chrome and Firefox a shot, but I doubt it's going to fix anything. I'll keep you posted.

60% of our users are on IE without problems. Now Mac and IE I don't know.

    No problems here
    Check your DNS settings
especially if you have a router make sure it is forwarding properly; many times ISP's change DNS IP's but don't tell anyone, so your DHCP router keeps using some old DNS (or you typed in hardcoded DNS into your PC that's old) and it fails...

    Good luck
