I'm curious. I'm a DYI type of guy. How hard (or easy) is it to replace the cats on a 1999 f355?
I'm looking to upgrade. My Tubi tells me it wants high flow cats. So I must obey. Should I do it or leave it to a shop? Thanks for your advice.

15 minutes is very optimistic. I would budget 1 hour per side, especially if you had to ask.

Depends what condition the bolts are like when i took my Cats off i had to cut 2 out of the 4 off.

I did mine in the garage though so i took off all the air-boxes and heat-shield loosened the exhaust off and did it all from the top of the car, i had no need to take wheels off etc.
I was in no rush so did it over 3 days but i would say that taking my time it added up to about 4 hours.

Be sure you also purchase new donut gaskets for the pipes. Installation is very easy, just a few bolts per side.

Thanks to all who replied. I just bought some Prospeed Cats. I know they are not a sponsor. But the price was right and from what I gather they seem to be of decent quality. If anyone would care to comment on them feel free. I'll tackle the job myself. I can't wait to feel & hear the difference. It already sounds great with the Tubi. I just hope there are no CEL issues!!

15 minutes per Cat. NASCAR style. I'll try. If it takes more than 30 minutes I'll do the honorable thing....

Thanks for the heads up! I really hate exhaust leaks! And I'll get some regular Donuts to eat to give me the energy required to perform this delicate operation.

Will be interested to know how they sound, as I am in the process of changing my cats, aswell. How much did they cost? and I have seen plenty on eBay for a decent price.

you should also check for any other parts that is rusty and needs changing or paint spray the Heat shields And if your clutch is wearing of, it's a good time to change that too. I have also polished my tubi, so it's all nice n shiny.

Or pictures of each step with a "play-by-play" would be just as effective.

While I'm R&Ring my cats I'll take the pistons out to check clearances, And while I'm at it, take the crank shaft out and and check bearings, Oh hell, I might as well disassemble the entire engine. Oh that'll be a gas. Checking valves and all sorts of cool stuff. I just can't wait. To see the in the innards of my little V8. I just hope I can re-assemble it......

A very strange individual. Does not conform to norms. Possible mental problems. Probably from too many adult beverages, working the grave yard shift for 22 years, 8 years active duty in the Marine Corps, and he has two crazy X-wives. Very dangerous combination.
