I replaced the F1 pump in my 355. It had the 360 pump conversion done already so a second, new, 360 pump went in about two weeks ago. When I first fired the car up, the F1 light blinked twice and went out. It did so until last week. Today the F1 light blinked 5 times before going out. So, I am curious, after letting your car sit for awhile..... How many blinks does your F1 light flash before extinguishing?
I think you have been spoiled, Watson, by the 360 pump present when you took possession of your car! The stock, slower 355 F1 pumps will blink for a good 20 seconds or so upon initial start up, so probably 20 or so times! I am soon to install my recently-purchased 360 pump in my '98 355. I sure hope it pressurizes the system up as quickly as just a couple blinks! John
Yes. Original, then a 360 conversion and now a new 360 pump again. Not sure why that first 360 pump motor died, but it did. The new one has cooling fins. The previous one did not and may be the reason. Anyway, the increasing length of pressurization time was the reason for my question. It is at 4 or 5 blinks now so perhaps it was just breaking in. Don't feel too bad for me...it was $700 and a Saturday morning repair.... Thanks. Is that an OEM 355 set-up or the 360 conversion set-up?
Do you have aftermarket exhaust? headers? Is the pump located on the frame just behind the rear left tire? If these are what you have they all create more heat than normal and the 360 pumps have a heat problem and start going bad and the light starts flashing more and more with time. I've gone thru 3 or 4. What I have found out is to remove the little piece of the wheel well directly behind the rear wheel and it gives the pump tons more air to keep it cool. I was at 7 flashs and since removing that piece I'm back to 2 flashs
It doesn't feel like it's blinking anymore than it ever has and I've had the car a long time. I don't ever remember it only blinking 2-3 times. I'd be curious if my car is abnormal but it works perfectly and has always been a long time blinker
