Beware of www.Superlifts.com - scam

Paid www.superlifts.com a 50% deposit ($3800) April 12, 2011 for a single post lift that was supposed to be installed May 15. They never sent a lift, never refunded my money and are now not answering their phones and have temp closed. Just wanted to warn you not to buy a car lift from superlifts or Dustin Rose (salesperson) or Keith Goolsby (owner).

I'll spare you the drama but was strung along, and the owner acknowledge to me in writing (email) that I will not be getting the lift, they do not have the ability to refund me and I'd best file a dispute with my cc co and get a lift from another vendor.

I called Barrett-Jackson (superlifts.com is an exhibitor at their events)-- they've already rec'd 9 calls this week about www.Superlifts.com and discontinued their affiliation. Even the Pres of Barrett was stiffed on his personal lift! They are looking for the contact info for Keith Goolsby and Dustin Rose.

I've filed a cc dispute and complaint with the FL States Attorney office. Also posted in Rip-off reports and some garage forums so that others do not fall victim to these scammers.

Apparently their are a lot of people who were taken and they've done it before (last yr they were Superior Lifts before filing BK).

Turns out Gemini is the real manu for these lifts most others pretend to be manu's but are just distributors. I still need a lift so I am ordering the same lift straight from gemini.

In this day in age if a co simply steals deposits, never sends product and does it systematically (they did it to dozens if not more), I wanted to post online so others can be made aware.

You mentioned Florida - is that where YOU are? Superlifts says Nixa, MO and there is a Keith Duane Goolsby 206 N Carlisle Dr, Nixa, MO with a spouse named Sarah E. Goolsby. If I'm reading the property records correctly they had a foreclosure in early 2010 but not on that address.

That appears to be Christian County, MO so maybe start by contacting the Sheriff's dept there? 417-581-2332 There is no Superlifts licensed as a business in that county.
Keith Duane Goolsby is listed as owner of Superlifts, he is also the communications director of the Ozarks Raceway Park in Rogerville, MO 417-738-2222. His cellphone may be 417-224-2348.

I did some searching (this is what happens when I can't sleep...) and Keith has been posting on forums about his brother David who appears to reside at 3412 N WAKEFIELD DRIVE OZARK, MO. A poster on another forum referred to David as the owner. Apparently David has been in a coma after a fall and superlifts have been using that as an excuse for closing down temporarily.
The same forum referred to a company called Radlifts 417-848-5438 - that Ozark track is owned by Mitch Chance who owns Rad Industries INC 402 W mount vernon St #266, Nixa, Mo

No, the name of the county is CHRISTIAN. Duh....

I know parts of the South have dry counties but I wasn't aware that we had any religious segregation by county.

once they file for Bankcruptcy, they are forbidden (and protected) by law to return your money. you have to file as a creditor in the BK proceeding in order to get anything, unlikely.

Apparently, there are many low end lift re-sellers (buying from a single source in China and reselling them here in the US) that constantly get in and get out of the business. This is what happens to the low end of the market due to price competition, low margins, and inability to differentiate.

My lift supplier (Panther Lifts) sold me a lift, got good customer service, and then went out of business 6 months after I bought the lift from them.

 

It seems there are a fair few dodgy lift companies out there, more so than in other areas of automotive supplies - although that might just be an errant perception on my part. I wonder why the lift business in particular is seemingly rife with scams.

Very unfortunate to hear this. To me it seems he ripped people off to pay his brothers medical bills while he is in a coma. Did you end up getting your money back and a new lift? 2 or 4 post?

My sincere condolences for your problem and thanks for giving us a heads-up.

Guys, make sure you follow through with this. It seems that there are very, very few companies left that have a sense of, for lack of better descriptors, honesty, integrity, and propriety, and it really getting old. I was ripped off for $3600 on eBay for a Gibson Les Paul guitar (before their PayPal guarantee). I took my issue all the way to the FBI Division of Internet Fraud, but nothing ever came of it. eBay was more worried about protecting this scum bags identity than helping me to recover my funds.

I just noticed this is in MO. This type of behavior from companies appears to be rampant in MO since the tornado outbreaks this Spring. The CEO of my BioPharma company invested in a music store in Joplin, MO. In sum, he was screwed and he's one of the most business savvy individuals I know. It seems that a lot of businesses are grabbing large sums of federal relief money, selling off their stock (which purportedly was lost in the tornado), screwing customers, etc. So you are not alone in this aspect.

 

I did get my money back from my CC company (temporarily while the dispute investigation is going on and it will likely convert to a permanent credit as I'm sure i'll win).

It's not about the tornado's or the accident, Superlifts and the owners (and many other lift co's) do this on a reg basis (close then re-open under a diff name). Superlifts was only in the brothers name because the real owner Keith had declared BK and owed so many people $ that he had to put the co in his bro's name. Also note the brothers accident came in June, long after the scams started. Their history shows they've done this before... there is no excuse other than they are either crooks or terrible business people.

After Superlifts I went to Gemini lifts who was apparently the manu of Superlifts Single Post Lift. Well guess what... they are almost as bad. I called Sam Ellis (the owner) of Gemini to try and place an order and after 6 contacts and 2 weeks I gave up a realizing they were just as unreliable. (he too had a handful of excuses-- meeting with lawyers, daughter in law was in the hospital). I was not going to go thru this saga again.

Instead I called BendPak, the only corporate type company in the lift industry (30 years in business, customer service dept, etc). They have single post in stock, ship immediately, and are a reliable, legit co. I looked them up and they have a long and exc track record. They only beef others have on BendPak is "chinese lift". Well they are an American co that engineers and designs the lifts and has them made overseas. They used to manu here then moved manufacturing overseas. (Big diff than an importer who buys a chinese made and designed lift.). The reality is they are a real and legit corp co and have their lifts certified, tested and inspected. Just as the iPhone is made overseas by Apple, its still a quality product. The reality is these fly by nighters that tout the "made in the USA" and "don't buy BendPak chinese lifts" appear to be the suspect co's and BendPak the legit one.

Anyway I am going with the BendPak 6000X (http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/parking-lifts/PL-6000X.aspx . It's $5250 installed and delivered, where as the Gemini/Superlifts/AmericaCustomLifts (all the samelifts) was $7800. The BendPak comes in blue and I want black to match my garage (see garage below). They will paint it black here in the US for $700 but if you want it powder coated from the factory in black it is $200 more but takes 2-3 months. I'm going with powder coat black for better quality coating, so it'll be a couple months.


In summary: Yes got my $ from the CC dispute. Beware of all the lift co's. I went with BendPak-- they are the biggest and (appear to be) a very legit and reliable co.

Also thanks for the heads up, as I'm 'sort of' shopping for a lift. This was all the warning and encouragement (for BendPak) I needed. Enjoy your new lift!

There definitely are a few advantages to using Gemini over Bendpak grade of steel and just overall quality but besides that Bendpak is blatantly breaking a patent on the perfect park four post design. That would scare me from going with them.

Really sorry to hear about the problems with Superlifts. I worked there extremely briefly early last year and this stuff SHOCKS me. I read the corvette forum too. But I'll say again, Gemini is legitimate. Sam is a great guy and you wouldn't be going wrong if you went with them.

With all due respect, this is your first post and you are saying one of the most well known and respected companies in lifts (Bendpak) should be avoided, and Gemini (the company who is much smaller, is associated with someone who appears to be a scammer - Superlifts/Goolsby) should be chosen instead.

What reputable company gives excuses when a customer calls to order?

As for the patent thing, I have no idea what the details are on that, but you are not qualified to just patent infringement, I'd wager? If Gemini has a patent that Bendpak is infringing, then they should hammer that out in court. Bendpak seems to be a somewhat sizeable company and it would certainly be worth the effort it seems.

Prospective customers should buy based on the price, quality of the product, and quality of the service/provider of that product.

Based on the gentleman's post above, it seems Bendpak wins on all three counts. "possible patent infringement" is not a criteria a prospective customer should factor into their decision, IMO.

I am a long time member of corvetteforum.com and am in the middle of a forum talk about Superlifts due to myself having been scammed for $3200.

I am asking that anyone and everyone that has been scammed please contact me so that I can give you the FBI agents information. He is really wanting to get everyone possible together on this issue. Whether I get my money back or not is becoming a moot point, I have worked extremely hard to make that money that they stole and I will do everything that I can, but hopefully the FBI can put a case together and let the Goolsby's serve some federal time!!
I am not about to take this lying down and will not stop until every avenue has been exhausted. Hopefully everyone will want some type of justice done in this situation.
Please feel free to give my email to anyone else on any other forum or where ever that has also been scammed by Superlifts, and also contact Barrett Jackson to let them know, they are compiling a list also.

I don't care at all about the 'patent' deal, but he may have a point with the grade of steel, not ALL of it coming from overseas is 'bad', but a lot of it is not near the tensile strength of most USA steel.
Not sure if that really matters in our cases because I don't see us using these lifts like a repair garage would, maybe up and down twice a week at most??

Not saying Bendpak is poor quality. You can definitely get a good Chinese lift and Bendpak is one of those.

As for Gemini just built the lifts for Superlifts. They are two
Complete separate companies. Just trying to share some information! If you'd like I can go back to not posting. With so many people having questions i thought you'd like what little info I had. Didn't mean to step on any toes there.
