See, there you go. End of story. The nicest guy driving for Ferrari, as it should be. What else could you possibly want?
All of this^^ in this years context. Understood it is moot but if JB were to be fast out of the box at the beginning of a new season why wouldn't the team let him lead? The old man himself pitted drivers against one another. Just can't disguise my disdain for FA. Wish he'd go elsewhere, don't care who would knock him out.
Absolutely nothing wrong with drivers on same team having a go at it-just don't take each other out. Beating your teammate is rule number one and the red mist is powerful stuff...
http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/6998710/Ferrari-Button-Rumours-Are-Twaddle- Felipe is safe so it seems.
I never said I didnt like Jenson, hes a nice bloke and lives around 25 miles from me when he is in the UK. What I said was, he is a clear second string driver, NOT a team leader. The Brawn car was streets ahead, and thats what got JB a title, he practically dragged himself over the line through the inability of others to take charge once the other teams developments caught up. He is viewed as an also-ran driver by just about everyone save his most loyal fans, the problem Ham-bone has is that he tries too hard to win at the first corner, and the more mistakes he makes, the more he panics, and the more serious mistakes he makes. JB is run, I am convinced, as a safe 'get consistent points' driver, aimed at the constructors title by Mac, with LH being their 'star' man for the drivers championship, since they see JB can drive a reasonable car to reasonable points safely with little drama, and just occassionally, if the wind is in the right direction, and others have issues, he might juts bring a win along to the table once in a while. In fact, the more I talk, the more I want Ferrari to actually take him on, because I rated Felipe much higher as a driver than JB before his accident, and, and its sad to see him in a number 2 role (maybe its time for felipe to retire/change series as the danger I think plays on his mind), whereas JB would happily take the cash and the company car
Couple of points. As you live near him, chances are you may bump in to him, so you can tell him that you think he lucked into all his wins, eh!! By Mid season the BrawnGP car had been reeled in, and a good few of the others teams had matched it, and beaten it, using there own double blown diffusers, plus the fact Brawn was running out of cash fast. So Button was on his back foot. He was also getting a real mental bashing from the media and fans alike. So I suggest you watch the 09 Brazilian GP. Button started 14th he pulled out about 4/5 awesome overtakes, which in fact he didn't really need to do to finish 5th, and win his WDC. I say he didn't need to because it wasn't the last race of the year. Most on here were saying he is finished can't handle the pressure, he then went out and proved he was as much a deserving WDC winner as his car was. That doesn't happen by luck or by a driver who is not a worthy champion. And again most said Hamilton would annihilate Button at Mclaren, yet it's not happened. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and Button is an example of it, may not be the most exciting (plodding as you call it), but still effective, the history books show that.
I would have no problem whatsoever in telling Button what I think, I told Lewis he was an arrogant hothead when I met him, and Ive spoken to several other drivers over the years. Button lives (or did once, think he still does), in Frome, which is around 25 miles away from me. When he was signed by Williams, he was given an M5 (as BMW were the sponsors/engine suppliers), and decided to race a friend of mine in Frome. Of course, the M5 was a cracking car, so he did get away from my friend in his Supra rice rocket, but only to lose it on the country lanes and wrap it up. But then, he was a lot younger then!! The Brawn car was reeled in, and if you remember, the Red Bulls were so unreliable, they blew lots of opportunities to reel him in. He may have driven okay in the last race, but I have it on DVD, and I dont think he did anything spectacular. If you want that, review Michaels last race in Brazil, there was a spectacular drive!!!!! Thst really the difference - Michael, Alonso, Senna, they could take an average car and make it extra-ordinary. Button takes a great car and goes great, or an average car and makes it fair-to-middling
It's just as well Ross Brawn didn't share your view on Button then... Your mind is set, I'll leave you to it.
I think Button is a level 1 driver as is Hamilton. He may not be as controversial as his teammate, but still, he is currently #2 in the WDC, and he leads his teammate by 16 points.
Performance counts. LH may have more 'raw' speed but JB has other qualities to offset that and remain competitive. I wish him the best and I enjoy his success.
Question: Why do people talk about Domenicali as if he has anything to do with the pit stop calls or race strategy? That job belongs to Pat Fry this year, it belonged to Chris Dyer last year. Dyer was demoted because of his bad strategy call in the last race of 2010, and replaced by Fry for 2011, who was hired from McLaren.
Lewis would be in a far better position, but now and last year if he'd just kept a calmer head. I hope he sorts it out he's such a great driver and I'd like to see him win more championships.
Ferrari has a long and glorious history of employing British drivers. Enzo always believed that they possessed a special 'fight' in them. I believe Button would quickly assimilate into the team and slowly turn the assets of the team towards himself. He has the mental strength to deal with a petulant little **** like FA. Button's great strength is that others continually underestimate him. It will be no different if he goes to Ferrari.
I like Button, but he has absolutely nothing to gain by going to Ferrari. Don't get it wrong, FA is still the best driver on the grid and there is no way that Ferrari will commit all of their resources to Button. They will build around FA and Button will have to be the #2 driver. Remember that Button is the older between the two of them also.
Yes, British drivers have always done very well with the Scuderia and Enzo seemed to favor them. It is almost a certainty that Moss would have won a championship there. I agree with your assessment of Button. Autosport is reporting that McLaren has already reached an agreement to re-sign him. Astonishingly, Martin Whitmarsh must know more about Jensen Button's talents than some forum members.....
The sarcasm suggests we could care less that button re-signs for maclaren.......... I hope he does, stops domenicali signing the also-ran by mistake!
Do you mean the also-ran who is leading his teammate (the putative #1) in points, and has equalled the total points of both Ferrari drivers? Virtually everything Domenicali does seems to become a mistake, so not signing Button.....
Now that the FChat crowd has finally found someone - Domenicali - whom everybody can agree to hate with passion, don't disturb the harmony with facts, please.
Yep, the guy who lucks in when his team-mate makes his over-exuberant attempts at winning a race within the first 100 yards!!!! Like for like, no one would argue Ham-bone isnt a better driver than him, and as for Ferrari, our car is not up to the speed of the Mac yet, let alone the RB, so why wouldnt the Macs be ahead on points??? Button is a journeyman, not a top driver, lets cut the crap!!!!
I'm sure Mr. Hamilton appreciated your personal insight, seeing as how you know him so well. Also, I, for one, get it...you don't think Button is a great driver...jeez, give it a rest. Jimmy
Just defending my own comments. If it takes you 2 months to read the comments, why bother replyin and quoting me. I stand by my personal opinion, and i didn't claim to know Hamilton well, but I have met him on several occasions having had paddock club access via Ferrari, and I have had the balls to say what I thought about certain things. He probably thinks of me as that rude Ferrari guy, or something ruder!
Sorry, I don't know the time limit on replies, I was in this thread early and then moved on. It's great that you stand behind YOUR personal opinion (hardly exceptional), decorum would suggest that you don't call someone you don't know an "arrogant hothead", but that's just MY opinion (which I also "stand behind"). Jimmy
I simply put down what I said to the man himself, nothing more, nothing less. The thread is discussing opinions on drivers, and thats my opinion....simples
