Just talked to Mark! He's home, and very, very weak, but told me to tell everyone that he appreciates the thoughts and prayers. He hasn't been on-line yet, and doesn't know when he will be... The problem now, according to Mark, is that everything tastes like mud... apparently, between the weeks of antibiotics and the various medications, he's lost his sense of taste. He thinks that once he gets that back, he'll mend much quicker, but he hates eating right now, because of the lack of taste to anything... Hopefully, we'll see him on he sooner rather than later.... Mike
If you talk to him again before his sense of taste returns... tell him now is the time to enter some insanely spicy chilli eating competitions and earn a bit of a extra spending money. All the best, Andrew.
Thanks for all the updates Mike..... hope to see Mark back on the forum in no time. All the very best to him in his recovery. Jedi
Mike, Haven't been on the site much over the past couple of months - just too much going on at work. Is there any way we could send something to Mark? I am not sure what... just something to raise his spirits and let him know we're all thinking of him. Anyone have any ideas? If someone wants to take point on it I will be happy to paypal some $$ into the pot.
Mike, As I understand it, he receives mail through the Army Post Office (APO) system, and his wife can't pick it up...and, right now, nor can he.... I'll be calling again today to check on him, and see if there's a street address we can possibly send something FedEx to. Mike
That would be awesome! You are a good man, Mike! I am on the road a ton the next few months, so if we can do something, maybe someone can PM me so that it goes to my email and gets forwarded to my phone. I don't want to miss out - Mark is an officer and a gentleman in the literal and figurative sense, and it would be great to bring a smile to his face during these difficult times.
Just got off the phone with Mark... Sylvia CAN pick up the mail at the Army Post office, and his address is: Mark Rabenstein CMR415 PO Box 3284 APO AE 09114 He said he would try to get on-line later today... so we may be hearing from him sooner rather than later.... AND, he sounds a lot stronger today than he did yesterday.... (yay!) Mike
Mike: Maybe Mark could open a PayPal account. Then anyone who would like to make a donation for a Get Well gift could do so with a minimum of difficulty. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_home-general&nav=0&kw=AGID_US_GSR1_TM_PPGNGen_EX_Head_KWID_KYWD_ADID_6087375008&mplx=AGID_US_GSR1_TM_PPGNGen_EX_Head_KWID_KYWD_ADID_6087375008&crlp=6087375008&mpch=ads&mplx=3484-98128-2056-93 I'm glad it would take more than cardiac bypass surgery and CA-MRSA pneumonia to kill this old Army Dog. Hurry up back. We miss you around here.
Not to mention he has a beautiful wife and he would be nuts to leave her in any manner Does anyone know what Mark's hobbies are, or can speak from experience what sort of things are good when you're recouperating from an operation like this? I know 10 years ago when I was recovering from a motorcycle accident, video games helped... but perhaps someone has an idea here?
Damn, I almost missed this. It is truly amazing what entrepreneurial medical can do. Who would have ever thought that deep freezing someone would work for this type of illness? Get well, old soldier, and report in at 0600 to make up for sleeping on the job. Dale PS Navy is still going to beat Army this year.
