    Hi guys,

For my Dad's 80th birthday, I'm planning to surprise him by saying we're picking he and my Mom up for "dinner", taking them out to the airport, boarding a chartererd jet and heading off for the hour-long trip to NYC from NC.

What I'm looking for is which of the uber-exclusive places I should be trying to go to for the dinner for 4. Is there a place of this caliber that is on a high level with a view? Does Jean Georges fit the bill?

I know that any place of this type will be tough to get a reservation in but I'm looking at doing this a month from now.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Per Se, le Bernadin, Masa, Daniel, Jean-Georges, Are the traditional ultra lux places.

Also to consider are David Chang's restaurants, like Momofuku-ko, but very hard to get a reservation.

    What floor is Jean Georges?

I keep going back to that because I hear Howard Stern mention it, haha.

Per Se has an amazing view of the park. Jean Georges is amazing, though on the ground floor. Many of the best restaurants in the city don't necessarily have great views. Konatown's recs are all great, you could also add Corton, Telepan, Bouley, Eleven Madison Park, Gramercy Tavern, wd~50.

A good friend of mine cooked at Momokuku Ko-awesome food, though there's a much more casual feel to it than what I'm guessing you're looking for. I think Per Se fits your bill perfectly.

    True...

So Per Se will probably be your best fit. It's on the fourth or fifth floor.
There is a private room that can seat ten, I think, so depending on the party size it may be ideal.

Lol, I would love to see the reaction and face and emotion from an 80 year old man eating Wylie Dufrense's food.

Ha, the food coming out of Per Se's kitchen is oftentimes 'playful' too but you're right Wylie does take his ideas as far as they can go (and they're still quite good). FWIW, I hope I'm still tasting new food when I'm 80.

To me wd50 is too far out there. I was not impressed the last time I ate there.... just because you can does not mean you should!
