Hi guys, I am now without my 456M GT and I am looking for a fine 550. I check out one car the other day, but a specialist said it did not have any options... I wonder what kind of factory option and extra equipment that these cars could be delivered with....? Greatful for all inputs!! Erik
I think the options changed over the years of production for the 550, so I'm not sure when each option was available or not. Some of the factory options were: - fender shields - rear shelf covered in leather (diamond stitch pattern like 250 Lusso) - 18" modular wheels (like on the 550 Barchetta) - carbon fiber interior trim - Daytona seats - colored piping and/or stitching on the seats and dash - painted brake calipers (such as red, yellow, or silver) - leather headliner (on the inside roof, can be flat leather or diamond stitch pattern) - leather covered fire extinguisher (mounted on passenger side floor) - fitted leather luggage made by Schedoni - spare tire & wheel kit (cars came stock with the fix-a-flat kit) There might be other options that I don't remember at the moment.
I think that Toggie covered it, except for sport seats. The factory options are almost all cosmetic. You might find a 2001 with Barchetta wheels. The real options to be looking for are aftermarket. Better radio, exhaust, wheels.
Yes, there was the FHP option on the late model years of the 550. I think I would buy a car with this option over one that does not have it. My 550 Barchetta has the FHP and it is definitely a firmer suspension and handling feel over my 2005 575M F1 with the FHP option.
I am looking at adding the FHP to my 2001 550M, hoping to make a improvement in its handling. I think this can add value to the car and make the car more enjoyable to drive by eliminating some body roll that is noticeable while driving highway speeds. The car is such a joy to drive as it is, but if there is a factory option (still avaialble) to make the drive experience even better, then I am all for it! Any help in locating the FHP handling package (only) would be appreciated.
Doug- Search FHP for dozens of posts answering this question. No longer possible to duplicate the complete FHP package with OEM parts because the 21 mm anti-roll bar is NLA. Here are all the parts and part numbers. Forgot to mention one thing. 550 and 575M FHP are identical, same parts, same part numbers, except there is a Bilstein Shock Absorber ECU on the 550 and no Sachs equivalent on the 575M. Are painted calipers an upgraded option? I was recently told black brake calipers we’re not an upgrade.
Measure the diameter of rear anti-roll bar. 17 mm plus paint standard, 21 mm plus paint for FHP. Or look at the part numbers on the spring tags or steering or shock ECU. Black calipers were standard, all other colors, including aluminum, were optional. Red calipers were standard with FHP.
