    Hey guys,

I have a question about a lens I just purchased. It's a Canon 16-35 f/2.8 wide angle. I've had it for about a week now and I absolutely love it. Produces stunning images and I could see this quickly becoming my number one walk around lens. There's only one issue. When I turn the zoom ring, I hear a little squeak. I can only hear it when it's turned slowly. It almost sounds like rubber rubbing against rubber. The zoom function works fine however, and I don't feel anything unusual when turning it, but I get that sound consistently. I haven't bought a new lens in a while, but I can't recall ever having this problem with any of my other lenses. Is this normal? Will it break in over time, or is it worth getting a replacement? Any of you ever have a similar experience?

    Thanks,
    Dan

I would find another camera shop that has another one in stock and go in and try it out and see if it does the same thing as yours.

More than likely the seals will need bed in a bit. My Sigma 120-300EX f/2.8 was a bit stiff new also but is fine now.

It might not hurt to call Canon and ask about it. About a year ago I bought a 100-400 4.5-5.6 L and within a month I started having problems with the focus/IS. Called Canon about it and they fixed it ASAP for no cost.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I think I'll give Canon a call. What number do you recommend?

Ultimately, I think I'm going to request a replacement. This lens is not what you'd call "cheap," and I'm starting to think that if there's any aspect of it that I'm not entirely pleased with, I should swap it.

    Thanks!

Considered it, but 8mm is too much! 16mm is just right, and I'm not willing to sacrifice my f/2.8
