why have asking prices for 89 anniversarys spiked so much

i know asking prices are asking prices but historically i recall them being under 120 for really low mile examples...3 on ebay right now at 267K, 169K, 169K...

Some cars were purchased new, as an investment. A few of the investors parked the cars and waited for the purchase to zoom up in price. I have seen genuine 100km cars.

 

Because Countach prices should not be where they are. They should be doubled and tripled. lp400 should a million dollar car, imo.

 

Yes, i agree: Countach is still the most shocking supercar ever built, a masterpiece of car history, nothing less.

I do not know what will happen to its price, as global economy is going very bad, but if a Ferrari 275 GTB worth a million dollars, i do not know why an LP 400 or even an "S" should cost less.

The only Countach problem is the 25th Anniversary: there are a lot of this ugly cars and they keep the prices low. May be we should burn them all... ;-)

I agree with the dream asking prices. Those owners really don't want to part with their cars.

 

658 25Th Countach were produced: may be Horacio Pagani increased the aerodinamic efficiency, but he destroyed the beauty of that car. And you should get rid of those "Chrysler " seats and replace them with the old ones, sold as an extra option...

Some speculators purchased some cars and kept them in a box just to gain money, but they did a mistake.

As for the higher asking prices I think its bcus all the kids that were Countach mad in the 70s & 80s now have $ and want their dream car.

That could boost prices. Look what happened to muscle car prices in the 90s

 

At 20-30 years cars that are giong to be big go up in price. The kid aged 15-25 that lusted after them is now 35-55 and more likley to be able to afford one, the cars are more rare due to age and attrition. The trick is figuring out what cars will do that - but the Countach has to be one of them - it is an Icon.

 

25th was built in the Chrysler era: more or less 300 cars each year. I do not like that car too much, but it is a Countach like others, even if the less beautiful one.

I was one, bought 10 years ago. It would make many cry knowing what I paid back then.

 

The car was in production so long that it had an impact on a wide age range. That's the good part. The bad part for the Anniv car was that it was only made two of those years so most people I'm pretty sure picture the other versions when they think of a "Countach". Couple that with the fact that they made a lot of them and people mistakenly thought it would turn out to be the most sought after version and you end up with too many around and with no miles, which on these cars seems to be a detriment mechanically. Too bad more of those original owners didn't buy them for the right reason = to enjoy.

 

In most cases, the European buyer, will have to pay importation tax, on top of the purchase price. It ain't cheap.

 

Yes, 33% tax, more or less: add delivery and you will have the real price here in italy.

Add that often USA cars are injected or have US specs: at 120 kUSD none here will buy a Countach in the US, unless it's brand new never used, carbed and with euro spec.

 

Kind of ironic that an Italian car going back to Italy would have an import/ re-importation tax... I understand if they tack it onto Vipers, Vettes, or other noneuropean cars imagine a gray market Italian car in the US going home to Italy to get taxed again lol

 

Apparantly Lamborghini has stopped parts support for the Countach. Many parts will need to be manufactured by other vendors, not an easy thing to do and very expensive.
If you purchase an Anniversary be sure it is as mechanically correct as can be. I believe the Countach is or will be a difficult car to maintain properly. For that reason I will not be aquiring another one as much as I would like to.
I remember a few years ago Audi/Lamborghini sold of their stock of OEM parts for the Countach. From that day forward I remember parts supply starting to dry up from Lamborghini. I am not sure if it is worse or better today?

 

Almost all old, specialty cars are hard to find parts for. Maybe we should just park them all.

 

sad to hear about Countach parts, odd since Ferrari Classiche really supports their old cars. How do the Miura owners fare for parts??? much more rare than a Countach and thus not much profit and hard to warrant supplying them

 

you can find many Countach parts without asking Lamborghini service and for less.
Here there are much of those parts.
Drive your car and without any fear: unless you destroy the cranckcase, you will find a replacement here in Italy.

I think you can rebuilt the cranckcase or an head too, as they were made by a foundry not far from here.

There are rear trunck covers, rear wings, every light, pistons, bearings, roller bearings, gaskets, exhausts and many many other parts, without paying any "Lamborghini tax"
