The driver of the car (a certain Le Mans-winning Henri Pescarolo) has logged thousands of laps at Paul Ricard. I bet they were quick.
The rumour says that, after the shooting, Lamborghini called Henri Pescarolo and told him it was not a way a gentleman should treat a car that had been lent to him by the company...
I love the commentary: "At 300 kmh in a Testarossa, you can smoke a cigar. In a Countach, you're likely to swallow it."
Raymond, the normal Testarossa was given for 295, some journalists reached 297. The 512TR was given for 313km/h, though I never read a test in which the tester would have reached this speed. That said, this is quite an overstatement to say that beyond 250 in a Testa, one would remain relaxed, IMO.
A Countach near 300 km/h is not a big problem: it goes straight without moving left or right. Bust you must wear earcaps for the noise of the engine... i
-1, the countach doesn't run straight at that speed rather the gearbox, the gears make a noise you can't hear the engine anymore...
yes the gearbox oil pump ang gears do a big noise with the engine all togheter, mine has the open exhaust that is quite noisy... i have to admit that i just hit the 250 of indicated speed (may be a real speed of 220-230 km/h) and then i raised the foot... it was still going straight at that speed. May be because mine car has brand new joints? with the joint new the car goes quite well straight ciao
humm.. I thought i had a n issue with my front end when it started of kind of "floating" and looking for this way at 220km/h on a straight. You tell me that is right? I can tell you that with my CT i never dared to acheive the top speed of my 1000cc Ninja. At 150mph I feel safe and have no issue pushing furhter if the situation ledns to it. At 130mph in the CT I get that float feeling . Very uneasy. I had heard guys in these lambo forum staying its straight like an arrow at over 250mk/h. what gives? NOTE: all of this on track of course
We ran 270kmh on german autobahn, that time it was stable, whenever the car begins to move left/right and vice-versa check the suspension, I had to replace 3 uniballs and one pinion located near the tank, now it's better but wasn't able to test highspeed behaviour since.
Hi, CountachQV, i have a 5000 S without rear wing: the rear wing downforce (that big fitted to the S version, not the smaller fitted to QV and 25th) pull up the front of the car so the car does not go straight anymore at high speed. New suspesion joints helps a lot to go straight at high speed (expecially the rear axle joints). What kind of car is your? I also did my experiment of high speed driving on a german highway... ;-) ciao
Many, many high speed miles in my Countach ('85 QV with larger wing).... dead stable and straight as an arrow at 170 ish (on video too....shows fluid temps and pressures stable as a rock). I spent plenty of money keeping 20 yr old suspension joints replaced and fresh - I think that makes a big differemce. Also having been in Countaches with and without the wing at this speed there is no question in my mind that it makes a big difference. As I recall / understand, the issue is that with speed the rear actually lifts a bit - this causes that "floaty" feeling....wing locks that down nicely.
I had several Countach's and took all up their max speeds many times...rock solid and one of the nicest high speed cars ever. My Diablo SE30 on the other hand was abit uneasy at 190 or so...
Interesting.... So, the wing of the 400s & 5000s would actually be, as widely believed, a cosmetic (?) thing with disastrous results on the car behavior, while the wings on QV & 25 would really be helping, correct ? Could someone comment on the wing efficiency on the early 400s (with the W.W.-like wing) ?
Somehow I don't see Dallara/Wolf putting a cosmetic wing on the Countach, and while the production LP400S weren't dressed by Dallara it appears to me that the Moody wing is identical to the ones Dallara put on Wolf's LP400's...
Henri Pescarolo ? Some reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Pescarolo Cheers. Though I agree he kind of sounds like a bear ;-)
