Sorry to say but the 458 Italia is a beautiful car but the 458 Spider doesn't do it for me!
The redesign done to the rear just doesn't look right and for me ruins it. Why fix what ain't broke?
If they wanted a faster V8 Spider they should have made a Scuderia version of the California not butchered a 458.

Not exactly - the SuperAmerica was a one piece roof that rotated back and sat upside-down on the rear deck.

This one is a two piece top that is folded back under the rear deck cover.

Some further info from the press release.

The all aluminium roof weighs 25kg less than a traditional soft top and operates in 14 seconds. Due to the small space required to store the roof there is a luggage bench behind the seats which is decribed as "generous" and can be seen with the optional fitted luggage in the overhead shot. 0-62 is achieved in under 3.4 seconds and the top speed is 198 mph. The electric windstop (rear screen) has been designed to allow occupants to hold conversations up to 200 kph (124 mph).

Is it just me or is it a little wider/different shape altogether compared to the coupe?

You can see why they chose a black interior. Beige and other colors won't work as well.

I am trying to think of convertible that is better looking than this one. I can't think of any. Ferrari has nailed it again.

this somewhat makes the coupe pointless now if you are buying. even if you are a serious driver this convertible still ticks the box's. sure it might weigh a fraction more but i doubt many would notice it.

It's beautiful; but I miss the fact you can't see the engine anymore....

it appears that the top folds down with the paint side being close to the engine - wonder how it will hold up to the heat of the engine?

I was thinking about that .. and also if there is enough slats to keep the engine cool, especially in the hotter climates

I had wondered what they would do regarding the rear quarter pillars with the air ducts, but seem to of left a half pillar to hide roll hoops but have not included the air ducts. Strange it would of looked nice I think with the air duct on the back pillar.

I do like how the car has a colour coded gts look, when the roof is left up. Very nice, now the standard 458 Market is about to flooded with everyone selling the cars they have used til this arrived, and those who have had the summer use out of them.

It will be interesting to see if any of the new Ferrari customers driving their California's are considering this new car. or are they waiting for a scud version of the Cali hopefully or waiting for new bentley gtc.

Ok, I've died and gone to heaven!!! That is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CAR I have ever seen!!!!! As much as I wanted Ferrari to produce a new Dino, I think all that I wanted in that possibility is found, along with sooooo much more, in this new Spider. Unbelievable!!!!!! Go Ferrari!!!! Love it!!!!!
