    63k offer? Seriously? And you thought it would be accepted? Porsche garage queens are problems, need to be driven. There are 996 Turbos worth more than 63k, a GT2 was a 180-200k car.

    Anyway, getting a PPI done tomorrow, will see if God wants me to have another Porsche. Might sell my 2002 Esprit silver anniversary if anyone is interested, 13k miles.

    The car was a euro. It was not an American market car.

    You can find a nice American market GT2, in or around the 70's - retail price.


    Why should I pay the same price, for a euro ?

    If I sell a euro, I will soon discover the difference in price.

    No offense, but where are the 70k cars? There is no difference between euro and us spec cars once federalized.

    I am buying to drive, not collect. Already put 3800 miles in one year on my 360 Spider. I will take the 10k plus saved on a "Euro", add a Tubi exhaust and 50-150 hp and have fun embarrassing my friends 430 Spider.

    The GT2 is a real fun car- especially when the boost comes on! It reminds me of the F40.... Nothing special at first, but as soon as you wind it up- YEE HA! My only gripe is the interior and the front end. The 996 just doesn't cut it. I love 2wd turbo cars!

    RPM, wants 76K, for the approximate 10,000 mile U.S. spec un-hit yellow car. I realize 76K, is not 70K. RPM has a good reputation.

    The 2003 green and tan 6700 mile U.S. car, has a $69,000 asking price.

    Not true.

    The euro has subtle mechanical differences. In addition, with a euro, most often, you cannot obtain any normal financing. Quite often, it will require a cash deal. The market recognizes a significant difference in price, between a euro and a U.S. spec car. Driver euro 550 Maranello cars, can be found in the bottom 50's.

    Personally, I cannot find any reason, to pass up, on a well priced good mechanical and cosmetic car. My opinion with a euro; you get in cheap and get out cheap.

    Where are you getting 76k from RPM? Asking price is $82,500? Car also has none of the carbon packages, not even the sill guards. Like I said before, I am not buying this for am investment, I am buying to enjoy. If Euro's can be had for 40% less, I look forward to seeing pictures of your 40k GT2.

    Aftermarket stereo system, and red seat belts. Always cracks me up, especially with new Porsche owners how they can't match the brake calipers and interior finishings. Look at all the GT3's speced wrong on Autotrader.

    Calipers are red for steel and yellow for pccb's. There are no factory options to change that.

    I understand that, my beef is that a guy gets pccb's and then does red seatbelts, or normal red calipers, and does yellow seatbelts.

    Oh. I don't even notice that stuff really. Now pccb's with red wheels get a bit iffy but if it's an RS the fashion police will not catch you anyways.

    Agreed.

    82.5K is the asking price.

    76K, is all it takes, to put it in your garage.



    I have never heard of any decent GT2 for around 40K+.

    I agree with everything ralfabco has posted in this thread. I especially like the Euro 'in cheap, out cheap" comment. I was all set on snagging a GT2 earlier this Spring and even made commitments on 2 of them: one was with an exotic dealer out of Cleveland who sold the car out from underneath me. It was a 2003 11,000 mile US spec car that was "sold" to me for $71,500, but then ended up going to another buyer (allegedly from Europe). I will never do business with this stealership.

    The other car was a 2002 Euro spec with 14,000 miles at an exotic dealership in Miami. I put down a deposit pending a successful PPI and began to do some research on the car. Turns out it was a track car (no problem) that was on consignment at Hennessy Porsche in ATL for a while before ending up in Miami. The chief mechanic at Champion Porsche was emphatic in stating that although it was a "nice" car, I would be crazy to pay anywhere near the agreed upon price of $71,000. He felt it would be a good deal at $58-60K max. Furthermore, my insurance company was hesitant in providing insurance on this particular car. I passed on this car.

    I ended up purchasing an '07 GT3 with 8,000 miles and got an absolutely smoking deal. Could not be happier with the car.

    Good luck with your purchase. I have driven a few GT2s at the track and they are incredible machines. Just be sure to do your due diligence and get a PPI done from an independant shop. I had a Porsche dealer try to sell me a 2002 GT2 that was driven by the owner of the dealership. Carfax showed an accident and the sales rep told me that 2 wheels were bent hitting a pothole---to the tune of $15k. Yeah, right.

    That was the last price, I heard from the seller.

    With those two examples, you can find a nice U.S. car and an excellent U.S. car, for in and around the upper 60's and mid 70's.

    I would like to buy, at an even better price. Why pay retail ?

    If you look again, at my first post (Post #25 in the thread); I mentioned that it would be better, to buy when the snow is sticking to the ground.

    Are you interested in a GT2 and have you contacted RPM? Sure you would get a better price, but then you wouldn't get to drive it until Spring. By then the car would be depreciated again, so don't know if that would make any sense financially. We have pretty bad winters up here, then you have to contend with the sand laid down to melt the black ice.

    PPI was done last night at Rusnak, am calling them this morning to go over it with the dealer. Then I will go over final negotiations with the owner. I am set on what I want so we will see what happens. A current 996 GT2 owner advised me to fly down and do a personal test/PPI, but I have bought other cars sight unseen and had very few issues.

    PPI showed 33,000 stage 1 revs, and about 183 stage 2 revs. So stage one is redline, and stage 2 is a little above. Sounds like the car was tracked.

    Exterior pretty good condition, has a Fabspeed exhaust, a few rock chips on the hood, and the front lower spoiler is faded and has some scrapes. Needs new front tires.

    The interior is the bigger issue: Most of the Carbon trim is pulling up due to heat, probably was outside in the sun a bunch, and the steering wheel 12 O'clock piece is cracked big time. Would cut your hands while driving.

    I don't want another car I got for a cheap price, then had to spend money and a ton of time returning it to my quality expectations.

    Car also has no service records, only 1 key, and no books, the tool kit and other stuff that comes in the front boot is included.

    Will look at another and see how it goes.

    Yeah they offered to fix all the issues, except the tires, then changed their mind and offered $1500 off asking price, which would only replace the cracked steering wheel. I told them no. Rusnak said if those items were fixed, that it is a nice car. Don't want another project car, next car I buy it will be perfect, or no deal.
