Here are a few photos my Dad shot back when he was a teenager in Akron, Ohio in the 1930's. These were negatives I found with some other family photos. Now the amazing part is that my Dad, now 93, remembered shooting the photos and told me what he remembered of the subjects. He did this just from my descriptions without actually seeing the photos!

The dirigible is probably the Akron, and was photographed flying over my Dad's parents house in Akron OH. He used his Boy Scout camera and remembered he was standing out in the street next to his mom.

The low wing monoplane is a Locheed Orion owned by Shell Oil and used as a flying laboratory piloted by Jimmy Doolittle.

The last one we're not sure about but we think it is a Bellanca, possibly flown by Clairence Chamberlin.

If anyone has anything to add feel free.

    Cheers,
    Kurt O.

The monoplane, I believe, is a Curtiss-Wright product and for the life of me I can't remember the name. It was based on the Curtiss Robin...maybe a Curtiss-Robertson design.

Travel Air (6000?), I'm pretty sure...

Name was changed to ??? after Curtiss-Wright took over Travel Air.

That top zeppelin shot is great. It looks very sharp.

The high-wing monoplane is still a bit of a mystery. It seems to share characteristics with the Curtiss-Robertson, the Stimson SM-2 and the Travelaire 6000 but there are also differences from the photos I found. I love a mystery!

    Thanks, that's good info:

Travel Air (not Travelaire) 6000 (later Curtiss-Wright 6B) - vertical stabilizer is slightly different - 6 passenger, bigger.

Stinson SM-2 (not Stimson) - looks more correct, at least the vert stabilizer & wdos - only a 3 seater.

Definitely not a Curtiss-Robertson 'Robin' - many differences from what I found.

So, I think it's the Stinson SM-2, now.

Very cool pictures - and such a bonus to still have your father who remembers
taking the pictures! I lost my dad when I was 15 and I'm always jealous of folks
lucky enough to have elderly parents to share stories.
