Don't be mean, now, I know that nothing on a Dino, is the same from one side to the other, I thought I would just check. Has anyone run into Dino doors that are not quite the same dimensionally? I don't mean the obvious as in the body opening, but as in the gap between the door glass and the outside, and the inside, where the two water retaining squeegee (right!) felts are applied to the inner and outer door trim? I ask this, because I have unevenness from one door to the other, but of course I discover this until now that the doors are being assembled. Anyhow, the doors (naked) fit really well in the body openings, so I guess it's a choice of "either-or", but not have your cake and so on. Thinking out-loud, I could have jiggled the glass channels, but then the door would have fit at an awkward angle into the body, which means altering the body opening....shudder. Just looking for an inconsequential answer to a fairly regularly recurring situation. Regards, Alberto
From my experience you try for the best possible look from the outside with the doors closed. Anything other than that that falls into place is just dumb luck Uro Trash's comment sums it up best.
And that's after several hours of work in the body shop to get them to fit better. Imagine how they looked when they left the factory. D
One thing I've noticed in many Dinos (particularly unrestored ones, which are becoming more rare each year) is that the rear of the doors, where the door scallop meets the beginning of the quarter panel scoop, droops ever so slightly. These doors aren't really that much sturdier than those on an old MG-TC. Fred
well, they were "almost a Ferrari" after all, and didn't get the attention their big brothers did. I think generally this is a hinge/hinge pin issue. We resolved about 90% of the problem when we put my car back together by replacing the pins. I don't recall if the hinges have much adjustment in them. D
I am extremely satisfied that everything is "business as usual" in Dino land. No more panic attack. 1. Pins do not adjust, unless you remove the hinges and rearrange the furniture, so no go. 2. doors fit however they do, and internals also fit to the best of realities. 3. Everything is extremely cause and effect 4. I think the goal is to have a nice finish, so others will be dazzled and not notice anything. Thank you for the heartening comments, and Dave, my '59 Giulietta is better put together. Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login
