Geez, it was so easy to spell Hitler, or Stalin, or heck, even Mussolini. But dang, try to figure how to spell Kadaffy, or is it Ghaddafi, or wait, maybe its Qaddafi???!

Theres more- even Gheddafi, Gaddafi, Khadafi, on and on. News reporters cant figure it out , and it should be their job.

Pol Pot, Pinochet, Idi Amin, easy to spell names of Tyrant Zealots.............

    No matter.

He will always remain my favorite Ruthless Dictator of all times.

No one ever wore a dashiki and African gold bedazzaled muu-muu like The Daffy.

It's because it's not spelled in English. It's spelled in Arabic and the English
transliteration is just a phonic approximation of the sound it would make in Arabic.

OK, kinda like how the English appropriated the spelling of Beijing as Peking? Mumbai as Bombay? Still, I dont get it. The guy's apparently bigger than life if his name can adopt endless spellings, I guess.

Shouldn't it be easier to spell if you can pretty much throw out any of a good dozen or so spellings and claim yours is 'right'... or at least as wrong as the others?
