Could anyone please help ! I have found some Ferrari Dazz Alloy 3 piece wheels off a 360 / 430 for sale on the net and I was wondering if they would fit on my 1997 550 Maranello. The Bolt pattern is 5x4.25 and the offset is 50mm. The fronts are 20 x 8.5 with 245/30 ZR20 Pirelli and the rears are 20 x 11.5 with 325/25 ZR 20 Pirelli.Any help would be appreciated, Thankyou.

To fit wheels made for a rear engined Ferrari on a front engined Ferrari you will need quite thick spacers in the rear, as the offsets are quite diffrent.

I personally think that the 599 GTO wheels would look absolutely fantastic on a 550...

    Hi

    It's just some calculating

    Let's start

    1 inch = 25,4 mm
    original
    front 8,5 inch = 215,9 mm
    rear 10,5 inch = 266,7 mm
    half measure is
    front 4,25 inch = 107,95 mm
    rear 5,25 inch = 133,35 mm
    this would be offset 0

    550 original
front 8,5 inch offset 43,65 mm (measure from hub surface to outside = 107,95 mm - 43,65 mm = 64,3 mm)
rear 10,5 inch offset 32 mm (measure from hub surface to outside = 133,35 mm - 32 mm = 101,35 mm)

i have mounted spacers 16 mm front and 30 mm rear, there is enough space.
    so offset change to
front 8,5 inch offset 43,65 mm - 16 mm = offset 27,65 mm (measure from hub surface to outside = 80,3 mm)
rear 10,5 inch offset 32 mm - 30 mm = offset 2 mm (measure from hub surface to outside = 131,35 mm)

possible spacers with original rims, i will try this when my ordered 42 mm spacers arrive in the next 2 weeks :
30mm front should be possible - i will try it next 2 weeks
42mm rear should be possible - i will try it next 2 weeks
so offset change to (this should be the maximum possible offset with the original rims)
front 8,5 inch offset 43,65 mm - 30 mm = offset 13,65 mm (measure from hub surface to outside = 94,3 mm)
rear 10,5 inch offset 32 mm - 42 mm = offset -10 mm (measure from hub surface to outside = 143,35 mm)

So the rims you want to mount must have
    front is like the original
8,5 inch with offset between 13,65 mm an 43,65 mm (smaller offset means rim is more outside)

    rear is not as original
    11,5 inch = 292,1 mm
    half measure is
rear 5,75 inch = 146,05 mm (this would be offset 0mm)

    this means
the measure from hub to outside could have from 101,35 mm (like original 550 rim ) to 143,35 mm (like original 550 rim with 42mm spacers)

so the 11,5 inch should have offset 44,7 mm (looks like original 550 rim ) to max. 2,7 mm (looks like original 550 rim with 42mm spacers)

I put the 19" modular wheels that were optional for the 575 on my 550.

No mods needed and I like them a lot.

They sometimes are hard to find for sale, but do show up on eBay or FerrariAds once in a while.

Sharp wheels, Ron. I like them better than the Barchetta modulars.

    They are sharp wheels Ron!
I also tend to like the look of the 575 modulars, but I like to think of the 550 modulars as period correct & I like the fact that they are deep dished for the rears. ;)

I like the look of both the 18" 550 modulars and the 19" 575 modulars.
I went with the 19" to give my 98 550 a slightly more modern look.

I kept my original set of 550 standard wheels for the next owner.

Thanks for the detailed response Daniel, it is much appreciated. So I guess if I get the wheels with the 50mm offset I would need 32mm spacers on the front and 43mm spacers on the rear. The only thing is the wheels would extend out and extra 50mm from original. I am not sure if this would take them outside the guards? Also is the bolt pattern 5x4.5 suitable for the 550 ? I am new to this site and it is very refreshing to see that there are so many Ferrari lovers like myself willing to help and impart their vast knowledge on these beautiful cars. I own a 360 as well and thought this was an incredible car to drive until I purchased my 550! The 550 is just amazing and I have no idea why the prices have fallen so much. Anyway thanks again, Regards Gary.

The bolt pattern of the 360, 430, 456, 550, 575 is the same.
It is different from the 612 on.

    Hi Gary

The spacers you choosed, means about 5mm secure from my expected limit.
If you wait 1-2 weeks, i can send pics with 30mm front and 42mm rear with the original rims, so we can see if this is really the limit which will be able mounting at a Maranello.

I have found this pic at the net.
This was the impulse to order the 42mm spacers.

One question i ever missed and so it was never answered :

What is about the stability of other rims?
The 550 has a weight of about 1750 Kg.
I think the 360 or the 430 is lighter.

do the 360 or 430 rims have the same stability like original 550 rims.
The tires for the 550 have a weight index of 99.
What index have the 360 or 430 tires ?

I think this is important, the 550 is heavy and fast, broken rims would be not fine.

Hi Daniel I look forward to seeing the photos in a couple of weeks. Your car is beautiful. The Blue one looks fantastic with the large spacers although if they are the original 18 inch wheels I suspect it could have aftermarket springs in it as it has been lowered alot.I am not sure about the loading on the wheels I am looking at? All I know is that Daz are alloy American 3 piece wheels and I think the quality is very good. There is also Imola Racing which have some beautiful pictures on their site of a red 550 with their 20" Challenge III wheels but I suspect these would be extremely expensive. They are in Wiesbaden just near Mainz in Frankfurt. They sell some very nice aftermarket bits for the 550.I will wait to see how you go with your spacers as these wheels I am looking at would need 43mm on the rear and 32mm on the fronts which is almost the same as you have ordered. Regards Gary.

Thanks again for all of your information Daniel. I have now been told by quite a few people that the 19 inch wheels will look alot better than 20 inch on the 550.The hamann wheels on ebay look really nice.Your car looks great with the spacers. It has really filled out the lovely curved back of the 550. I am getting a quote in the US from someone there that seems to think that 255s should go on the front and 355 25 19 on the back. The 355s tyres are very hard to find but have just found some here in Australia at $800 a tyre! I will take some photos and post them once the wheels are on. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, Kind regards Gary.
