My god I love the 458s unique shifting sound and over all engine note, sole reason I don't feel anything towards the Mclaren 12c

Was taking a buddy for a spin today and figured why not try to top my personal top speed of 164mph. As I'm sure you guys already know, it's tough to try to look at the speedo when driving at such high speeds, especially when it's on a public highway with cars out.
I sneak in a glance and I thought I saw the needle (electronic of course) passed the 180mph mark so I decide to hit the brakes and slow it down after already missing our exit. Come to a light and check the trip display...
Only to see that it was only 165mph. So i only bettered myself by a measly 1mph. F*ck!

140s on turn 8 of big willow in a 997 gt2 porsche. And 165 in the front straight. Can't wait to get my 458. Suppose to eat those numbers.

I drove 195 mph in Germany/Autobahn near Franfurt at midnight. At this speed the road becomes quiet narrow. The feeling is pure testoterone......

why don't you change the speedo display type? I am using the one with very big numbers filling all of the right screen, very easy to read in a glance

Over 190mph on the M4 in England in a Murciélago (sorry it's not an F-car!) at 2am with my girlfriend drunk asleep in the passenger seat. Don't know how much over as I didn't dare glance at the speedo after seeing one-ninety. Seemed like it was for ages but was probably for no more than 15 or 20 seconds, if that. Certainly gets the blood pumping!

The only thing that matters is that you still have an Fcar in the garage after getting married. Some guys aren't as fortunate. :)

speaking of top speed, I attempted to deliver some top speed again like I did 10 years ago in the 360 (180mph average roughly over 36 miles).

this time, my wife and I got to about 160+. the road conditions were really bad. the road was one lane in each direction and it was incredibly bumpy. 160+ was very difficult to sustain this time. so it was bursts into 160+ on this road (which is in the middle of nowhere in eastern california/western nevada).

Not to put a dampener on things but here in "lets fine you for 3km/h over the limit" Australia, posting these sorts of exploits can be used against you.

You can do 190 on US highways but if you're caught...you'll go right to jail.

175 on the track. Would love to do an event that has enough room to hit 200!

A variation on the Mojave Mile event is a good idea if you want to try bust the magic 200 mark in a "safe" environment. However, be advised that the 458 will not hit 200 in a measured mile from a standing start, nor will it hit it over a mile and a third with a 70 mph rolling start. I speak first hand here; last April, a few of us rented the Mojave Air and Space Port for a day just prior to the actual Mile event. Most of the us there were rolling in our Ford GTs, but one of our participants brought a lovely new 458 and a Porsche Turbo S. We had the whole day to make our attempts, with a pretty fierce tailwind. Neither the Porsche nor the Ferrari were able to get above 195 in the space provided. We had official timing set up, so there was no fudging on the numbers. The 458 was impressive nonetheless, many of us were skeptical whether it would see 190. Remember, it is very, very difficult to get a street car above 200 outside of an unlimited distance like Nardo or the VW loop.

In April of 2012, we are reconvening. This time, the course will be even longer, and the rolling start will be unrestricted as the driver enters the main runway. I'm pretty confident that the 458 will get its magic 200 credential at this event. Regardless, I'll be there with both the GT and my 2012 458, which will arrive in January. I'll keep you posted.

BTW, my GT did 210.1. The fastest GT at the event saw 238. You may find this interesting; it is a video of one of my runs.
