Interesting letter in Sept/Oct edition of Vintage Motorsport, concluding with "I was happy to get rid of that pig and get my money out of it"!

    Probably 1961 or so.....

I quoted his book, in the discussion of 250TR #0666.

Ferraris were way down on power in the United States to the Scarabs and such about that time.

Even Ol' Yeller would take them!

Joel was an engineer with IBM when he was young and spent considerable time in Italy in the 1960s. He has driven them all...literally. We have a very romantic view of all old Ferraris but they were all not great drivers.

I was curious if anyone had contact information for Joel. I have a 1962 Abarth 1000 GT Bialbero that won the class in the 1962 Bridgehampton race and I am trying to track down the person credited with the photo in Joel's book "Bridgehampton Racing, From the streets to the Bridge". The car was driven in the race by Bob Grossman of Ferrari GTO racing fame.

It looks like he's been out on tour promoting his latest "Carribean Capers"....

Joel is in Roxbury, CT the last I knew. He has turned his attention to american furniture for the most part but is friendly with Duncan Dayton who has a shop in Danbury, CT.

All of them? Well then we have a pretty amazing history where the poorer driver's cars were the most succesful on the track. Seems a bit unlikely, to say the least.

-I loved driving the one that Tom Shaughnessy has now (the one which was blue and yellow for a long time then black and Burgundy) for Prancing Horse (#130 first quarter 1999 how time flies) but it felt like riding a baby dinosaur which I wrote in the text and also like a wheel barrow with 340hp, which I did not.
Brian Redman drove it at Moroso during Cavallino a few years later and fully agreed with my take on it...but we both loved it :) I would definitely want one but beef up your arms like Froilan Gonzalez! The Lampredi engine is particulalry exciting.

-Joel Finn is indeed in Roxbury CT doing some interesting books, not just furniture. He is quite the recluse so don't expect too much.

I prepared cars for Stirling Moss during the 1980s for historic racing. We had many conversations about all types of cars. There are some Ferraris he refused to drive in competition after a practice session. They were dangerous in his opinion?
I'll go with his assessment...thank you.
