Anyone seen the new Cadillac commercial with Ferrari 458.

“Ferrari came to us for their new magnetic suspension”

Shows a Cadillac pulling away from a 458 on the track. Bull ****! I want to see a Cadillac head to head with a Ferrari on any track. I’m sure there is some truth to Ferrari working with GM on technology, but certainly not how they’re trying to sell it. Ferrari approve this commercial?

Sounds about as classy as the Bvlgari clock on the Escalade dash.

MagneRide is a Delphi system but I thought the dampers were by Ohlins on the 458. Of course the ZR1 also has a Delphi system (and I guess Cadillac). I'm guessing that's where the similarities end but Cadillac (like Chrysler) is basing their ad campaigns on half truths and stretches of the imagination.

Its funny, because Delphi makes the magneride suspension systems used by GM and Ferrari. Delphi is an independent contractor, it is not owned by GM.

Looks like what I said is true.

That's a pretty ambiguous commercial. What if... What if... I guess that's how they can get away with it.

but IIRC magnaride was originally developed by Delphi for GM, for the C6 Vette?

then adapted/licensed to the 599, Cali, 458, etc. maybe cars from other brands too.

I didn't think the C6 had it, though the ZR1 does, however, the 599 was out how many years before the ZR1?

Was the 599 the first Ferrari with the Magnetorheological suspension? VW/Audi has had a similar type system for a while now too

<I want to see a Cadillac head to head with a Ferrari on any track.>

Latest Top Gear America has the Stig piloting the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon (and coupe) around their test track faster than a Cali. Not a 458 by any means, but you did ask....

Partially correct, the system wasn't developed for GM, it was first implemented on the XLR, which is essentially the C6 platform. The real reason Ferrari uses the Delphi system is that Ferrari initially approached another subcontractor about a similar system, but Delphi underbid the other subcontractor.

Yes, well first production Ferrari to have the system, there is a 575/599 mule that had the system.

The system was actually developed before 2002, for the Cadillac DTS I believe. Patents are owned by GM I believe, although developed by Delphi.

I don't think the commercial is outlining the CTS-V is faster than the 458, only that the 458 relies on GM technology and not vice-versa. Its impressive stuff.

That link doesn't list the XLR at all. The XLR was the first GM car available with the system as standard. I don't recall the system being available on the C5, though I could be wrong.

You know what's really funny? In the commercial, it's the Cadillac with the manual transmission, and the Ferrari with the automatic transmission...

I thought I read somewhere that Obama personally designed the 458 in his own image, and then the next day he rested:)
