    Hey,

Well, it seems SDC has been given a ban!.....

I guess he started one too many LH bashing threads (since deleted?), and was already on thin ice as we know....

However, and may be there's other stuff I don't know about, but he "only" quoted Lauda, who may or not be crazy, but is it worthy of a ban?..... IIRC, it was up to ~40 views, but no responses and I was kinda hoping it stayed that way. ;)

Anyway, seems he's gone for a while at least.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Hi Ian.

I banned SDC, after more than enough warnings he continued to post the same boring stuff all the time, he knew by starting that thread he was ignoring warnings from myself and Andrew.

The thread was not banworthy but coming from him I have no doubt he posted it to encite the same trouble previous posts by him have started, and IMO it was a slap in the face to the mods here who have given him more than enough chances.

If you feel that the ban was unjust I have no problem with reviewing it with the other mods and if needed unban him?

I still thought the "in the words of Lew Ham QUOTE" thread was interesting. Obviously taking out the severely biased remarks.

Has that thread been deleted because I think it would be interesting to go back and see how (or if) Ham matures as he gains more experience. I say this because of his recent incident at Spa where he claimed it was 100% his fault, quite different for Lewis as of late.

Even though that thread was created in a negative manner I also thought that it could show the positives of a driver in the maturity of their comments

If it breaches Fchat terms, you have every right to ban. If not, then as mods, you know whether you have overstepped.

Personally, I never read his/her stuff as it was generally idiotic but, fwiw, no one on here will have me wave a white flag due to their posts, nor will I put anyone on ignore.

Sometimes, even those who usually post absurdities have a valid point. Lord knows, many on Fchat would apply similar to many of my posts....;)

Is, the person had been told numerous times (I lost count), to dial it back a bit, he has taken absolutely no notice, Steve the mod, is bang on, he was just taking the urine, Andrew had tried to be nice, but still to no avail.

Fast Ian had a silver sub thread about it, he was systematically destorying threads with his constant crap about Mclaren and Hamilton...and IMO he will be back. I will be on his case if I think he has a sock puppet account.

Fair enough Steve and I read Ian's concerns, but I am of the Churchill doctrine, we have nothing to fear but fear itself, and I believe the usual suspects would eventually be on to him/her and ignore their posts as we do countless others who are similarly afflicted.

SDC's ludicrous posts are generally unworthy of comment for the most part, but is that enough to warrant exclusion ?

If it is, we're proving one person can control the participation of an incredibly diverse, intelligent, well read and analytical group of F1 enthusiasts.

I personally reject domination of our collective thoughts due to one member (or non-member) who posts their own. I realize it may make life easier if we exclude a poltroon, but I believe ignoring their boring utterances by the membership at large would contribute in solidifying our resolve rather than have mods do the dirty work for us.

Nah, mate - I'd chalk it up to yet another slap in the face to Members. Either way - Buh-bye.

SDC put the "arse" in "arsenic".

I hear you Is, fair point, but sometimes the hammer coming down is the better option, the masses had given said person enough slack IMO.

You'd look great with this one..;)

SDC has posted a lot of BS, but banning him for just quoting an article about Lauda's opinion? IMHO that topic would even be worth a discussion. If Lauda or any other prominent figure in F1 voiced their opinion about Alonso or Vettel, we'd be discussing that, too. Without anyone being banned.

Well it went Ham needs to drive more like Button, and he might not crash...big deal!. not exactly a earth shattering news breaking article, he was trolling.

However discuss away here then, Florian.

Perhaps not the same link as the original, however......

As annoying as Lauda can be with his opinions, he is not wrong on this one. JB has outpointed LH because he is more consistent. The name of the F1 game is to score points and falling off the road does not get the job done. The crash or win method does make for more excitement for the TV viewers and bigger repair bills for the team.

I personally see Hamilton as a modern day Gilles Villeneuve. Both fantastic drivers, but with a tendency to crash out a lot.

It's the way the mods choose to deal with SDC (and numerous other trolls) that has convinced me to repeatedly not re-subscribe. SDC was obviously a troll. Everyone knew it. He was pissing good members off. Now SDC is gone,... and if it's not perm, we all know it will be sooner or later,...

    Too little too late IMHO.

A lot of good members post a lot less because of the mods lack of moderation.

I would say it falls afoul of these rules:

1.2 No "Trolling": Please do not post any topic that disrupts the peace and harmony of this community. Don't create meaningless threads with the sole purpose of starting a dispute. This includes messages in profiles and signatures.

1.3 No "Spamming": Please do not double post or cross-post the same message in multiple forums. You will not mass-PM or mass-email multiple members of this community the same message. You will not post for the sake of increasing your post count.

When you've got a user that focuses 90% of their entire posting history on one single solitary topic despite absolutely everyone around them getting fed up to their back teeth of that same broken record message, it has gone too far. I asked him to tone it down and discuss McLaren more rationally on the forum, but we still got the messages such as ":D Kobayashi should get driver of the day!" for being involved in the incident that put Hamilton out at Spa - clearly it was a comment designed to provoke. Steve has also warned him repeatedly in public to stop being so darned repetitive and tiresome... to no avail.

After his ban for posting spoilers, he returned to say the ban was unfair, and declared there was a bias for the F1 moderators "protecting Hamilton/McLaren/etc..." because Steve and I are in the UK. Well, that wasn't the reason for the ban, even if he would like to think it is.

As for his most recent ban, what it boils down to is that a fair few harsh words and complaints in the F1 section (as well as users stating they avoid the section) are traceable to him getting into a thread and stirring the pot with another Hamilton-related or McLaren-related gloat/provocation when something unfortunate happens to either. It just ticks everyone off, causes trouble, and then creates a lot of work for the moderators sorting it out. We've given up thinking that he can debate the topic reasonably when in recent days he is still making posts like this:

That is designed solely to cause trouble - trolling... pure and simple. He might be enjoying the hell out of himself with the relentless McLaren trolling and incessant snide insinuations that there is a "protect Hamilton/McLaren" conspiracy on FerrariChat but, from what I can see, not many others are. How many months of this should we all (users and moderators alike) have to put up with? So this time Steve pre-empted the inevitable fallout and got rid of the platform SDC was setting up in order to stir the pot yet again.

So whether SDC thinks its a conspiracy or not, when one user starts to negatively impact the enjoyment of the forum for the majority then they've either got to change their ways or...

    5. Corrective Actions for breaking any of the above:

Ferrarichat.com can ban users without warning, explanation, or appeal, at the sole discretion of the website's operator and moderation team.

FerrariChat.com does consider that some users may not be aware of our community rules and are otherwise good users. Our moderation team will try to warn users, but for serious violations and for users that have been warned before bans may be implemented that range from 1 day to permanent.

Well, we tried a friendly chat and that didn't work. Warnings didn't work either. We're rapidly losing patience and we're on to the "intermediate" response now. If that doesn't work, there's a final escalation. He would be wise to refrain from his usual trolling antics upon his return.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
