I went to my dealer today to get me a set of OEM brake pads. The salesman told me that they doesn't have them in stock and I have to "Pre-Order" them from Italy which would take 14 to 21 days!!

So I thought about EBC, any squealing horror/happy stories about them? Please share your comments..

    Thanks a lot!

My brother had them on his E46 BMW and loved them, as they didn't make noise, and were very low on the brake dust compared to the factory ones. He had the green for street use. I have no idea how well they work for Ferrari. Maybe someone online has the factory brakes and can get them to you faster?

Thanks for the input. I tried Recambi but they told me that they don't accept American Express :D I will try eBay which would take another 3-4 days to get the 4 digit number.. Meanwhile I'm inquiring about EBC and hope to decide which way to go!

    Thanks!

Had EBCs once, they were ok but not the greatest for stopping.......Still my overall favorite has been the Porterfield R4S series which are great stopping, do not eat up your rotors, and actually have a much lower dusting than other brands. (And I'm sure anyone else that has used them will jump in with the same).

As I recall, you still can only order from them directly, but, their service is excellent and prompt!

Good luck, and hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.
Which ones were they? Red, Green or Yellow? How was the squeal?

    I tried:
OEM pad: no squeal, stops ok, but overheats quickly.
Ferodo DS2500: great stopping power, doesn't overheat, but squeal so bad.
EBC redstuff: performance similar to oem except less dust and more squeal.

can't wait to try the Porterfield!

I have not used EBC myself but have heard that certain ones tend to leave deposits unevenly when they get really hot (like when used hard and you stop and wait at a stoplight). I don't know which color, but do some searching on BMW enthusiast sites and you should be able to find good info.

You should be able to find the pads best suited for the kind of driving you do at Zeckhausen Racing. Current favorites for street are StopTech street pads. If you are more aggressive I think the Ferrodo DS2500 pads are what you want. The best thing is that Dave Zeckhausen is a brake guru so feel free to email or call him for advice. I have StopTechs in my car and the feel and stopping performance is very close and slightly better than OEM. Dusting is about the same, maybe less.

I hear good things about the R4S Porterfields but have not tried them. I have tried (in other performance cars) Mintex, Axxis Deluxe Plus, Axxis Ultimate and Centric Posiquiet. Others' experiences may vary but I didn't like the Posiquiets at all, as they tended to fade early and left deposits.

I liked the Axxis Ultimates a lot but don't know if they make them for 360s. Not that I could find, anyway. They have great initial bite even when relatively cold and are very resistant to fade. Some people complain they can be a bit noisy but mine were quiet. Slightly less dust than OEM BMW pads but that's not saying much since those tended to dust a lot. In would have probably used Ultimates were they available. The StopTechs seem very close to the Ultimates. From what I hear, the Porterfields are similar.

Most low dust pads I found do not work well in some aspect. The Deluxe Plus were excellent at low dust, but initial bite was poor and didn't seem to stop well until very warm. Mintex (red box) were noisy and dusty.

    Good luck with your search.

I had the R4S pads on my 355 and they had no squeal and way less dust than the OEM pads. I plan to put them on my 360 soon.

I put a full set of EBC Redstuff on my 360 Spider w/o turning the rotors. The car had 30K miles and no shimmy/shake, scores, etc. so I just put the pads in. Barely have a 1000 miles and my wheels are cleaner, braking is solid, but the squeeling is frustrating. It seems like just the front passenger wheel does it and only at low speeds, pulling into a parking spot. I mentioned this to another F-chatter and he said it's a shim problem....I was doubtful but after visiting the EBC FAQ's they indicate 60% of the noise problems result from shim problems.

    http://www.ebcbrakes.com/troubleshooting.shtml

I'm gonna pull the wheels and pads to see if the Shims are missing from one side...
