Why's that? So it'll take your mind off of the wallet-draining notorious issues that plague the 355's?

You're NO "Ferrari Guy"... It looks to me like you're an AMC guy, so your thoughts and opinions on this matter have been officially ignored and dismissed.

Here's an idea... since I havn't voted yet... i'll be the FIRST 348 owner to vote yes, IF.... I can be granted the ability to BAN any users from viewing the 348 forum! This way the 355 pompous newbie posers who dont know dick about their cars cant bother the 348 guys who do with their problems!
All 355 owners who voted yes to separate will be banned immediately.

Firstly... Michael, that's a really disparaging and mean-spirited thing to say. Shame on you. :(

Secondly... Steve, try not to take the bait - it's really not worth it.

    Sincerely,
    Andrew.

    This made me laugh...perfectly put:
...and explains this response to a TEE....
I never understood how post count & join date equaled intelligence. There are new folks that join everyday....some with extensive knowledge beyond many people that have been here for years....some not so much. But experience outside the forum join date is somehow never recognized. That is unfortunate.

Leave the forums together. Can we all agree to be more descriptive in our titles when posting issues? Starting out with: 348 - or - 355 2.7 - or - 355.5.2 would be nice.....

How about having a separate 348 SPIDER ONLY forum to distinguish us from those other albino sun-hating 348 owners?

But not only should you be searching through this forum, you need to go though "Technical" and the really old archive section to cover all bases.

IMHO - it would have been nice if none of the technical forums were split-out.
THough slogging through reams of posts can get boring right quick.

    You're right Andrew...

My comments are pointed DIRECTLY at the "some not so much" gang who, thanks to a crap economy managed to obtain something at a fraction of its value, then come in here and spew a bunch of nonsense, arrogant BS and stir up hostility amongst the veterans. This has been an ever increasing constant over the last year.
Has anyone else even noticed how most of the legendary veterans from this forum dont post much of anything anymore?? This forum has declined more than the value of our cars!

    I repeat...
YOUR 355 IS A 348 WITH 8 EXTRA VALVES, 1 EXTRA GEAR AND POWER STEERING... DEAL WITH IT!!!

More words of wisDUMB from a 355 newbie... i'm no hater, I just have zero tolerance for arrogance and stupidity. The people here who know me, and I respect, would throw back a couple with me anytime, anywhere... and i'd be happy to buy!
The problem is, most of them have all abandoned this forum too, because of guys like YOU!

Steve, I hear what you're saying...why has this topic even come up? Never came up when those absent veterans that you mentioned were regular posters...

This is an interesting point, I do think we 348 owners feel a bit hard done by due to the historically revisionist opinions on the quality and ability of our cars by many a motoring journalist, many of whom have never even driven a 348. How many times have we seen the 348 on a list of the most woeful cars ever produced by Ferrari, even though when the car was released it was voted by one major US mag as one of the 10 best cars in the world and was universally lauded as a superior and worthy replacement for the 328?

I also know for instance that my 348 (its a GTC) differs from a 355 in quite minor ways (interior details, pwr steer, extra gear, extra valves), it even shares many parts (not just body panels and chassis) given that it was manufactured at the same time as the first 355's and since it is a lightweight 348 variant with a little extra power (rumoured) its performance is very similar.

So I don't feel the need for a separate forum, as the cars are so similar, but I do take your point and think there is some truth to your assertion given the univeral praise that was heaped upon the 355 at release, when essentially it was simply an update of the 348.....a pretty good one though I do admit.

    Seriously funny.

Yea I like AMC. I grew up with them in the 70's & 80's. I had a rather limited budget when I was 16. I like cars that are unusual. I also appreciate American cars. Got a problem with that? Why the newbie bashing? I've been a 355 (Fiorano) owner for 6 years. Were you born with a Ferrari? Everyone is a newbie at some point. I welcome them. New Ideas are always refreshing.I didn't mean anything bad when I used the word woes. I have them too. Crawl back under the rock you came from. I hope the majority of Ferrari owners aren't snobs like you.

+1 it's obvious to me there should be a separate 348/355 Spider section for the obviously more mature guys of the group.

The rest can go F#ck themselves.

For the life of me, I can't understand the reason for this thread. The 348 and F355 are siblings. There is much that can be learned by F355 owners from the 348 and the inverse. Moreover, this forum has a sense of camaraderie and I would really miss the interaction with the 348 owners if it were separated. Why don't we just leave well enough alone.

So ...if I'm reading this data correctly, the ONLY people that think it should be separated are half of the 355 owners. Everyone else thinks it should stay the way it is. And a conclusion was reached suggesting the 348 owners had a mental disorder. Is it me or does it appear that half the 355 owners are elitists in search of a private club where they might J**k each other off.

To the more social 355 owners. We ARE brothers, You will ALWAYS be welcome.

Which 355 owners have acted eilitist? It reads to me that the only hate around here is coming from 348 owners:( I have read over the years the the 348 guys can come across as insecure, and i now after watching this thread i tend to agree.Has anyone else noticed its also the 348 guys doing all the jibbes about the 355 only have an extra 8 valves bla bla bla, the more secure 355 owners have not.
Could it be that the 348 is cool by association, there for dont want to be seperated?
Lets face it one of these cars was rightly or wrongly one of ferraris worst, the other one of the best ever.
Of course this is only the opinion of a newbe with 20 years of ferrari ownership, long before the prices of the 355s fell.
I would still like to know if it was a newbe that contacted Rob Lay, i bet it wasnt ;)
Looking at the poll things might be staying as is anyway. But lets not fool our selfs things are not as freindly as some are trying to make out around here. On the point of the brotherhood, thats a 348 thing. I remember when the two 348 magazines were published, it was plainly stated that it was a 348 brother hood magazine only, i remember that.

I was not trying to make this a personal debate but rather pointing out the obvious represented by the data. Lets try this from another perspective. Which sub forum should the 355 be added to? Should they be put in with the 360/430 group with which they share absolutely nothing? or will they need there own group like the 458 or FF?

Sorry my lowly 348 drags you down so much. Is that the problem? Do you have concerns that your resale value is being affected by association with my POS?

Your 355 is newer than my 348 and is in some ways better. It has more HP, its faster, the tranny is stronger but like my 348 it also has many problems of its own. We can work together to solve those problems or not. Your vote seems to define your answer.

Hey Rob...thanks for stirring this pot.

Definitely need to be kept together. There is far too much similarity 'tweenst the two for separation. Yes, I'm a newbie, but I've always thought that the 348 and 355 were far closer in lineage than separate.

Elitism sucks; I for one would much rather gain all the knowledge I can about both cars than have to switch back and forth to get my fix.

    Well-said Scott. :)

To my mind, the 355 is an evolution and update of the 348, in much the same way that the 328 is an evolution and update of the 308 - although perhaps the update was a little more extensive in the styling department. By many standards, the 355 is the better car (interior plushness, creature comforts, handling, performance, etc...) but I personally much prefer the aesthetics of the 348 and like the idea of a sports car without power steering.

These are extremely small differences in comparison to the rest of the Ferrari range. The 355 couldn't really be grouped with any other model, and I think to separate them would be sad on many levels. They seem to share a number of similar maintenance procedures and I think the vast majority of the "friction" between the owners and enthusiasts of each model is just good-natured teasing (e.g. gorilla-armed 348 drivers or hair care conscious 355 drivers).

I would greatly lament a separation of these two wonderful Ferrari models.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
