I think it is a sexy car, but I still think I will buy a 16 M before I buy this one.

Looks like next week it should be in LV. That's what I found out today. If that's the case, I probably get it around the 20TH.

Looking at the design, I think it's possible to have one or 2 small ones. But, I wonder about heat issues. Someone in the aftermarket I'm sure will study this I'm sure.

I was thinking the same thing too it could be possible if they solve the heat problem and the other thing is the rear pillars are too big ( i like the ones on the 599 sa aperta better , they got more defined design to them) in the meantime everybody that is buying a coupe 458 italia are making a better choice in my opininon , enjoy yours when it is coming and post lots of pics

But how do you guys think you can see the engine once the roof is flipped back? Or am i missing something?

Maybe it doesn't matter if you can't see it when the roof is stored as long as you can see it when the roof is up (as in, you can't have it all).

What your missing is that at least you could see the engine under glass with the top up.

But, for me, I think the glass cover has been overplayed. I'm glad it's gone.

Really? I love the glass. Being able to see that beautiful engine is one of the great pleasures in life. Also, as a designer, I just love the 'out of the box' thinking where, at some point, a lightbulb went on in someone's head and they suddenly said "Hey, hang on a minute, why are we covering up this work of art? Why don't we put some glass in and put it on show?" It's inspirational flashes like that that are the stuff of great design.

Like any fashion, it can go out of style. The nail in the coffin for me was the Vette with the glass cover that showed--- a cast aluminum housing.

Lambo's have them. The McLaren has one that lets you see a bunch of plastic.

    Time to move on.

Mmmm... Some bands play crap music. But that in no way devalues what The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2 or Pink Floyd's version of a band is.

Agree. Been there, done that! This is a return to a more classic design.

The glass engine cover on the coupe makes sense - it serves an aerodynamic purpose; and the driver needs to see out through it. This had already been done in the past with the Mangusta and F40, to name just a couple of cars.

I always though the glass on the Spiders looked a bit token and undersized, kind of like a promotional cut-away display at a car show. The epitome of this, as mentioned, was the 'vette hood.

Not quite the same thing. If all those groups covered the same song, you could say it could get old.

For me, it's not a big deal. I really like the way the spider blends the rear deck into a rear wing. It's very unique. Of all the solutions they could have come up with, that one is certainly successful.

I agree. I love the glass displaying the engine...it is a supercar after all and the engine is certainly a part of that.

Glass cover to show a Ferrari engine will never go out of style IMO... Just like a seeing a Victoria Secret underware model!

What an emotional journey this thread has taken me on!!

After seeing the press release pictures I decided I'd keep my 430 spider. It was heart wrenching decision, but I wasn't keen on the 458 spider at all. It didn't seem to have any ZZZZ....

Then I arrived at the metal pictures... my god it's beautiful! So now I'm getting one (when I can...) and I'm back to being in love with the 458.

Without threads like these I'd never be able to make any rational decision about anything ever.

Now can someone direct me to the thread on Supermarket shopping lists? I'm hungry and confused.

Each engine is a different song. And there are some songs I like to listen to and some I don't.

What I really like about the 458 Spider is the fact that when the top is down, it almost looks like a targa topped car, and frankly I find that more attractive than say a strictly convertible top like you see on say a Ferrari F355 Spider or a Lamborghini Gallardo Spider.
