Well, with 7 races still to run, I am going to stick my neck out and give my formal congratulations to Sebastian Vettel on becoming the youngest ever double WDC. What a magnificent performance. The kid, and the whole RB team, have done phenomenally well. I wonder if the points margin of his championship victory will be the biggest in history? Looks likely to me...

I'll play along, and make an equally shocking prediction... the sun will rise in the east tomorrow.

I think you could have gone as far back as 4/5 races ago.

The others take points away from each other, so it was always going to be inevitable.

Almost certainly. Something would have to go *badly* wrong for it not to be with the new-fangled scoring system handing out points like confetti! Damn, it used to take almost 3 wins to score the same as one does now.....

    Cheers,

I still think Seb will nail it. He doesn't need to win any more races to prove it..

Unless he has a very serious accident that'll put him out for X amount of races it's his, and has been for about 4-5 races like Steve said.

I used to post the injury disclaimer, but at this point I'm not even sure that would take him out of the running. If he'd died at Monza he could still very likely become the 2nd post humous WDC.

Not to be too macabre, but I think his gap has become unattainable, particularly with his pursuers canceling each other out.

So the WDC is a wrap. Any of you statisticians know what records could also get broken? Most wins in a single season? Most pole positions in a season? Biggest winning points margin? Etc etc.

Youngest two times WDC in history.

Biggest points margin to 2nd place, although that's really meaningless by itself, it would have to be adjusted to the points system from the runner up of this record, which I believe was Mansell.

How about: Least controversial multiple WDC? He gets my vote for that.

I guess the title is all over bar the shouting..... We've still got some really interesting battles going on behind, so I'm not gonna lose interest.

Possibly the best battle now is if my man Michael can pass the Young Lad and save me 2 bottles of Pinot! ;) If he hadn't been wiped out, I think the lad may have done *really* well today, but "that's racin'" and I reckon Is is getting a little nervous :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Meh. I'd much rather see it go to the wire.

Much more interested in the Ferrari vs McLaren battle, and hoping to see Mercedes GP up their game next year.

Nah, look at Webber in the same exact car, he can't do anything like what Vettel can with the RB7. Vettel is just on a whole different level of driving than anyone else is right now.

Anybody questioning he's the best driver at this point is just in denial :D. He has proven himself, including passing. And qualifying half a second ahead of second place Hamilton with the lowest top speed was just staggering. No one is remotely close to controlling the car at the limit like he is. Watching him control those rear-end slides at Monza was epic. I guess he can start asking for big bucks now, no?

You think he's better than Fred?

I'm not arguing, but I'm just not sure he'd be an improvement.....

Would he take Phils seat? Not a chance with Fred there IMO [Although that would make for a very interesting pairing......]

    Cheers,

so 6 races to go... 150 points avail for WDC

    Seb currently has 284
Alonso (currently #2 in wdc) currently has 172

So the most any challenger to Vettel can score is alonso with max of 322, if he runs the table.

Seb needs only 39 points to unbeatable regardless of what any other drive does...

And it's more sobering if Abu Dhabi is cx'd,... alonso then with max of 297,... Vettel would only need 14 pt's more!

(The race winner will take 25 points, with 20 and 15 being awarded for second and third places respectively. The next seven finishers will score 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively.)

    if Vettel does no better than 5th, 5th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 6th... it's over.

And w/o Abu Dhabi,... he needs a single 3rd place to clinch...

I'd wager no one even gets to Vettel's current points total... assume alonso gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd,... he scores 120 points,... and just barely eclipses vettel's current point count.

Not me. The car is fantastic, but Vettel is also smoking Webber,... if it was all the car,... webber would be closer than -117 points.

    Absolutely.

And it speaks for Alonso to be second in the WDC. Under normal circumstances that place should be Webber.
