I wouldn't say "out of the park" as the technology wouldn't ever attract me. Why have a camera body that can fit in your pocket if the lenses never will?
it's mirrorless asp/c, not m4/3rds as the sensors are different sizes. there are few good native lenses to handle the 24mp is the other issue if you don't grab that lovely $399 adapter on top of the $1200 body only price and have those large alpha lenses sitting on the shelf. at that point buy a dslr. also seems 24mp on asp/c is ambitious. it might bite them... m4/3rds is a better overall "system".
There is a Time and a place to use every camera and camera size.. This one will find/ make a new place.. Most likely they will test it with a stock lens and get great reviews.. But to switch up to a superior lens....it will be some stiff competetion, for the DSLR boys.. I have 6 digi cams now, that sony will make it 7... Just gotta check if there is a lens adaptor for Leica and Nikon lenses to fit sony body
+1 I'd love to have a compact camera with a large sensor and good lenses, but what's the point if you have to carry around a normal sized lens.
No matter how you cut it, these small body cameras take up less room and are easier to manage when traveling. That said I will never give up my full size cam and gear
Now This is the space saving way to travel! 24 Mega pix should up the ante Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
what's the point of using that glass on the GF, you can't control anything other than focus? you've got no aperture control I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. 4/3rds glass on m4/3rds I use all the time and can fully control. I don't see as any benefit to using any of the mirrorless camera's behind AF glass from anyone else. Please tell me what I'm missing in this equation you've got going... why not simply grab some m4/3rds lenses? the 12mm f2 Oly the 20mm f1.7 panny the 45mm f1.8 Oly and the 40-150 for zoom and you have a kit that weight less than your big zoom pictured(or close to it) and you have great performance is a small/compact kit that gives little to anything away from what you have pictured other than money of course to grab them. that you can keep in oversized shorts pockets and/or a much smaller bag.
I dont really use any of these other than in closed enviro...I do use my leica 25...all the time Point is when this sony comes out I will be able to set up scenarios as these pics..with full control.. Kinda feels like a fold up military rifle...AK 47..or such. I am not advocateing this cam as a primary , however it will be fun to have in the arsenal..
the sony won't AF or aperture control those lenses any more than any other mirrorless. paint me very confused at presently 6 bodies and adding a nex into that mix. panny is coming out with the 25mm in m4/3rds so you can gain size advantage there if you swap out for the GF. do you have any native m4/3rds lenses for the GF?
What i find most intriuging about m4/3s is the body size My experience has been the lower the f stop rating and the greater the ring size of the lens, the better the pic will be because the shutter speed will allow a crisp shot. An old nikon d 100 with a 1.4 f lens can still take a better pic than a d7000 with a 5.6. So lenses are paramount...bodies are only subject to shutter speed shake Thats my take!
It offers a great size to performance ratio when used with native lenses. Add dslr lenses to them and they lose that advantage. not all lenses are sharp wide open regardless of their capabilities to open wide. some need stopping down to get them to perform as well as they are capable in terms of sharpness. add to that that the body plays a critical role in the image as well as the lens as it needs to process the information received. that's not a fair comparison, put the same glass on either body and I suspect the d100 while capable will show it's age depending on the metric's you use to compare. agreed, glass makes a huge impact on the images produced... might I ask what are your other 4 bodies other than the GF and Nikon FF you've mentioned.
With a great lens , the camera is not so important. Hence , why carry a big dslr around Just carry a sensor and a shutter in as smaller package as possible Ideally an f 1.4 55 mm lens attached to any body set at a shutter speed of1/250 or faster in the right hands will take an award winning pic.
Yah, most are sharpest somewhere in the middle of the range. My 24-105 canon lens is best at f/8, and roughly 80mm. It's hardly noticeable, however.

It's not about winning anything, I'm just trying to clarify what I think are some points in this you are either missing or I'm not understanding. It's simple, no other manufacturer's lenses are going to AF or have any electronic control on a NEX unless they are third party that makes native sony alpha or e mount lenses. but it's "just wrong" that 16-35 is not going to be a 32-70 on a NEX it's going to be a 24-52.5 due to the NEX crop factor of 1.5 +/-. add the fact that's a 2lb lens is for a FF sony... you'd be in $1900 for the lens, $1200 NEX7 body only, $400 adapter = $3500 I'll be honest, I have no idea what you are chasing at that point as you already have what seems nice glass and at least one FF body. the others are native sony e mount lenses meant for the NEX but are more/less average performers which is the NEX systems biggest weakness right now. They also don't gain any real size advantage over their asp-c counterparts. if you want a small system grab some of the other native 4/3rds lenses for your GF and continue to enjoy that great panny/leica you have.
