These pretzels are making me thirsty!!!
Tried Hendricks in a couple of Martinis last evening. My usual is Sapphire. Hendricks is my new choice for Martinis. Very fresh tasting. I will pick up a bottle of this and ten this week.
Across the street from the office at Meridian restaurant. Damn nice Ten. Mrs. Better come pick me up.
Downed the last of my Tanq Ten before I left for Europe. Picked up some Hendrick's and it definitely lived up to its hype + more! My new Favorite Gin!
If you have not had Old Raj, and you are a gin guy... you have to try it. once you do you will not go back. in a pinch Bootles is good too.
Another friend of Hendricks here, and for everyday, I like the Bombay Dry. Problem is, I am going to have to write a blues song about my wife entitled: Why'd you go and drink my Bombay when you still have plenty of your Russian fire water left?"
I am all about the 10. I drink it all the time. Its just so crisp and clean tasting. Add some 10 gin, a little tonic, and a lime, and everything starts to make sense. I like Hendricks as well.
reviving an old thread: went to the grocery store today; Tanq 10 was on the shopping list as I've been on a G&T kick lately. well, they were out of Tanq 10. or don't stock it, who knows. bummer but alas, they did have Hendrick's....what an interesting gin. I'm still not sold, but definitely one of those "and now for something completely different" drinks. thanks for the recommendation, Fchat!
gin lover's owe themselves a bottle of Plymouth's and a bottle of Death's Door(a Wisconsin distillery)
do you know if Death's Door is distributed widely? in other words, where will I be able to find it? EDIT: nevermind.... http://deathsdoorspirits.com/pages/availability/availability.php
I have been trying out different vodkas with tonic but have been throwing in the occasional gin and tonic. Had a couple Bombay saphires the other night. Pretty tasty. I'll have to look for some of these other brands mentioned here. Since it's late and I have no gin in the house I guess you guys talked me into a vodka tonic then!! Oh, and Daniel, don't feel bad, Washington state is the same with state run liquor stores. There has been a recent run on the tradition though. In fact I just signed a petition while at Costco today!
My last trip to the state liquor store I did see 10 gin and picked up a bottle. What a difference! I also made it to the little organic distillery near me and tried their vodka, gin, and whiskey. Wasn't a big fan of the vodka (had a tequila aftertaste to it for some reason), but the gin might be worth a shot. They were waiting for Treasury approval to sell it though. They did have the fever tree tonic so I bought some of that and tried it with the 10 gin. Great drink!! They also had another tonic called "Q" that is made with the ever increasingly popular agave syrup as a sweetener. I like it and the fever tree about the same. Both have a better flavor than the generic Canada dry or Schweppes tonics. Oh, well, another half a drink and I'm off to bed!!
wait, there's cucumber in some Gins? That would be why I get a massive migraine when I drink certain brands. Cucumber is a trigger food for me, when eaten I get massive migraines.
I'm new to gin. Tried Bombay and at the opinion of this forum, I bought T10. Think I prefer Bombay. I've also tried tonic and club soda again. Still not a fan. Did you just get use to it?
T10 + a good tonic water and generous ice. Lime if you're willing to slice and smear. If you're having trouble getting used to it, throttle back the gin percent. When I need to remain coherent, I use a standard shot glass (1.5 ounces) to a single bottle of tonic (7 ounces). All other times, I just eyeball it. I suspect it becomes a 2 ounce pour with a 6 ounce tonic.
what is all the hype of gin being bad for you??? or the tonic that you mix with it?? also i heard that gin has high amounts of Methanol in it....
Beefeater is my favorite gin. Hendricks and Bombay Sapphire is gin for girls. They are so soft that you cannot make a dry martini with them. A glass of straight Bombay Sapphire is a wet martini in my book. With Bombay Sapphire and Hendricks the juniper is faint, lurking around in the background when it should be up front as the most important botanical. To make gin more appealing to the masses they come up with these ultra premium gins that drink like water which just ruins it.
not a fan of beefeater's but I agree about the "ultra premium" gins...they're trying to do to gins what they've done to vodka, where the "better" they are the more they taste like water.
I tried some of the Rangpur but I really don't like it nearly as much as the 10. On another note I heard the small distillery near me is now licensed to sell their gin so I will probably make a run out there soon to try a bottle of it. They also for some reason happen to be the ONLY place I can seem to find the Fever tree or Q tonics. I can't believe even the high end grocery stores near me don't carry either of them!!??
I've been drinking the t10 with tonic and club the last few days. Still not a big fan of the dryness, but its growing on me. I realize now that the lemon I put in it the first time over powered the drink.
