    458 owners:
I am trying to finalize a design for yet another Ferrari removable front license plate bracket similar to the ones I have sold on my www.plateclip.net website, to fit off the 458's front low center "wing". I expect the license plate to be positioned as shown in the yellow outline photo attached. Unfortunately, the only place I see viable will be covering the Cavallino badge. My finished design will require NO drilling or tools to install or remove. All my bracket's surfaces in contact with the car will have a protective cushion. But right now I may be recommending a piece of clear bra material be applied to this same wing section for maximum body color (paint) protection.

Is anyone in the Los Angeles area, including Ferrari Dealers, is willing to allow me to come to your place to make a sample profile section of this wing section for a production mockup? I'd make the first successful one for their car for free! Making the profile will involve about 1 - 2 hours and I would protect the car's surfaces with light tack masking tape so there is no potential for damage to the surface from my work. Once I make up a prototype, I'd like to return for test fit, hopefully then proceed right into production.

I will be happy to post my final prototype here (or PM me) once I have resolved the design, if anyone is interested.

PM me or email me at the address on my website.

Also, if you are interested in obtaining one, PM or email me and I'll start a list. Target price will be near the model VX3-VXL3 for 360's and 430's currently selling on my website.
    Thanks,
    Bob R.

My dealer had installed my plate in a better way without covering the horse. If you put it in the upper lip of the bumper is better than the lower lip, so you wont cover the horse.

    Salam Abd Rahman,

How did the dealer afix the plate? Double sided tape and is the plate made of steel or plastic?

    Thanks :)

USA plates look like they might hang down more than yours does. I cannot see any way to attached the bracket to an edge or lip up in that area of the nose. I suspect the dealer had to drill or tape the plate in place which makes the installation (semi) permanent, correct?
My intent in offering all my Ferrari Plate Clips is to allow the owner to install and remove the plate anytime and at will as they choose, without tools or drilling. While not covering the horse badge is a nice goal, I feel the sacrifice of it not showing it worth the ease of installation and removal to most owners. Thanks for your input!

Be real careful considering that device on a low spoiler like on Ferraris. It lowers your front spoiler clearance by at least 1" and if you goof up and hit something, it will be toast.

I have already done the ultimate solution -- move to Nevada where they don't care, don't charge you sales tax on the trade in value (unlike California), and don't have a state income tax.

    As Charlie says -- "winning!"

I thought about that as a solution. But it would be very tight to fit something through to the XX mesh grill portion. Plus, I'm told those black inner "wings" within the side inlets are a functioning component and I did not want to disrupt their (supposed) function.

I'll PM you to coordinate a meeting if I do not get a closer offer, thanks!

One thing you might want to consider for a USA shaped plate, is having the lower edge of the plate extend slightly below the lower edge of the car's front bumper. For a low profile car, this helps in knowing when the front of the car is about to hit on a steep incline. The plate is mounted like this on my car and when I hear the plate scrapping, I know I'm at the point of where I need to go extremely slow, or adjust my angle of attack.

Out of curiosity: I thought you don't have to have front license plates in the US?

Only 19 out of 50 States do not require a front plate. The States that do are increasing their enforcement of this law to get more revenue. Even cities are ticketing PARKED cars with no front plate!!!

Just saw this right now - thanks for the info! You don't need it in Cali right? I remember seeing several cars in Cali without front license plates.

LOL!! You are kidding right? California is one of the WORST on enforcing!!! Those cars you saw either do not know, do not care, or have not been stopped yet.

By having government plates on your car you are subjecting yourselves to their made up rules. The very act of even registering your car is handing over the TITLE (certificate of ownership) to the government, thus giving them ownership. Here in the UK at least, if you look at your V5 document you will see that you are just the registered keeper, not the owner.

Remember this - to register is to hand over the title of what ever you are registering. Many people are now seeing past this fraud and are taking ownership of their property back. There is no LAW that says you have to register your car, only made up LEGISLATION. Not the same thing as LAW. To break a LAW there has to be an injured third party of some description. Statutes and acts are nothing more than policies (CONTRACTS). As such they require the consent of all parties involved to have any force of LAW.

    No consent = No contract.

How should I know ;) I don't live in the US yet - but I will keep this in mind when moving to Cali next summer! Thanks! If they stop you, can they force you to put on plates or do you just have to pay a fine?

Thanks for this very interesting explanation!

Are you saying that I am not breaking any law if I don't register my car, because no involved party is injured? So their "wish" to register one's car is some kind of made up legislation ergo a policy and thus requires my approval? So I am breaking no law by not registering my car just legislation - where are you going with this?

I am going to guess that you are NOT a lawyer, because what you say makes absolutely no sense.

    But maybe its just me.......

The way I see it, the Gov't is imposing a consequence on the public if one does not register their car - law or no law. Bucking it will just create inconvenience to you, if not additional expenses.

..... Until you have an accident and someone gets injured or killed then you have broken a Law ... And because you didn't Register, you are not insured. So you have broken a legislation... Which is of course the law as well.... Bottom line you're screwed :D :D

    Chairpilot,

Have you progressed with this mechanism since your last post as I may be interested? I live in Gibraltar and have a 458 due for delivery end of March/early April (I just submitted the final spec before production).

I got a ticket after 2 years of driving around with no front plate on my BMW M3. What I did was to order a screw in kit that bolts into the front end tow hooks that is removable. Went to CHP office got the fix it ticket ($25) signed off then took the plate off. Hopefully won't get another fix it ticket again.

    Martin,

For the past month I've been making a mold of the front lower wing of the 458 to use as a shop jig to form the pieces and test fit (pictures). It so happens I will be finishing up my revised prototype bracket for the 458 this weekend. If it is "perfect" I will begin making a few for some guys who are on my initial "short list". My plan is to ship them before Christmas. I will include one for you if you wish. PM me for a cost and purchase details.
    BTW - where is Gibraltar?
