so my slant nose has finally arrived...i took it for a spin (no pun intended) and after about 40 mins, mostly in traffic, here's what the temp needle was doing-is that normal, or is it running hot, and if so, what could the cure be...in fact, does someone know of a good Porsche mechanic in manhattan or close by...

oof...that was a lot of questions in one go!

    thanks all!

    That's OK.............no worries......that is normal.

I have sold over 1,000 Porsches since 1989 and owned over 25 different 911's and 930's personally..................in heavy traffic and hot weather that is where your gauge will often end up.

Porsche actually removed the degreed temperature readings from the gauge in US spec cars to keep folks calm in this circumstance.

I have never seen any of my 6 911's get that hot here in Georgia, but i dont live in the city, so the cars dont ever sit in " traffic" per se.

the air cooled beast you now own is impervious to hot or cold. seriously, the only time they really ever will run hot is if you use the a/c and i frankly have only used the a/c one time in my 20 years of 911/930 ownership.

just make sure to put some good anti freeze in that radiator when you prep if for winter!

Congrats. Looks incredibly good. Surprising how well people keep many of these older Turbo's.

    Have fun.

FWIW.............had a client whose oil thermostat on his new at the time 964 failed to open and his temp guage went into the red on a track day. This is the same client who missed a 5-4 downshift and went into second, grenading the engine the same day.

Upon disassembly the case had not shifted, the bearings were OK and shows no signs of heat damage. Gotta love synthetic oil.
