Countach, the ultimate supercar

That's the one, pretty strange if you ask me.

Back in '07 this RHD car sold for huge money to a guy from the US (Michigan IIRC). Now it's been repainted and it's going back where RHD cars actually make sense for about half the money.

 

Not good.

Of course, one car does not set the market - in either direction.

 

RHD, not surprised. A LHD would be much more surprising.

 

It sold for too much the first time, I think most will agree. In this economy you take your chances when you go the no reserve route. Well sold the first time, well bought the second time, that's my take on it. I'm sure there is more than a few that say to themselves, I woulda bought it for that. I thought it was going for much more.

 

Can it be registered anywhere in the US?

Yup, I think collectible cars sell for less in the UK if they're RHD, for people think it'd be easier to resell, when the time will come, if LHD.

While in LHD countries, in fact, when talking of a Countach, I think people would care less of the car being a RHD instead of a LHD, when buying.

No, that doesn't make sense, UK is RHD, so a RHD car will be worth more than a LHD car being sold here (in theory). There are also many other countries that are RHD so you will find RHD cars swapping between those countries as well. I think that very rare cars will sell wherever the money and desire is, regardless of RHD or LHD. Complicated isn't it? Far better if the US reverted back to RHD!

 

Don't agree : check prices of collectible cars being sold in the UK (not talking of everyday cars but those that are expected to raise in value with time) : LHD sell for much more pounds than RHD.

At least, last time I checked this was the case.

 

In the U.S., I drove an RHD collector car for a day. It sure was different. I am sure with time, it will become easier to handle the change.

 

In the UK? Sorry, but UK drivers would not prefer a LHD car over here. If you had two identical cars, one RHD and one LHD, there would be far more chance of getting a higher price for RHD than a LHD. It's no fun driving a LHD car over here. I would imagine it would be the same for selling/buying a RHD car in a LHD country. I reckon it would be possible to buy a LHD car at a good price in the UK and then sell it at a profit in European LHD countries.

I've had a quick look but can't find any RHD/LHD Lamborghinis for sale to compare them.

 

Not talking of driving but collecting : this makes the price difference. The few times I had the opportunitity to compare ads with ~identical cars (but the wheel location) in magazines like Classic & Sports Cars, the difference was massive.

Of the 3 standard Miura SVs that sold at auction in the last year, the highest price was achieved by a RHD car, 4818.

Of course we are speaking of standard cars, and not prototypes or Jota-mods.

 

An RHD car in a UK auction reached an higher price than two LHD cars sold on the continent ?! Am surprised...


"Continent" being US or Europe, I guess this makes no difference anymore, right ?

Apologies if I've already posted this query but I'm at work and a little bored (!) but does anyone in the UK know of a white RHD Countach registered "EER 1"?
When I was growing up there was always chat about a local man (and former schoolfriend of my mother) who had a Countach. I only saw it once and it was white with the rear wing. It's on the DVLA website as being taxed still and listed as a 1985 model.
With all the photos of Countachs on this forum I'm surprised to have never seen it pictured. I am guessing it's still with the same guy as the number plate was specific to their family and I'd be surprised if he sold it with the plate on. If so then this would be a one-owner car I believe.

 

It's not one I can ever remember seeing. Can't recall seeing any photos of it either.

 

Not correct, 1 of the 2 other SVs was sold in the USA, all 3 at auction FWIW, so that is a legitimate public accounting of values.

Not surprising at all, look at it this way with RHD cars, although a LHD car has a broader market appeal, someone who specifically wants a RHD car is often willing to step up, knowing its not often they will encounter a RHD car that's available. That's exactly what happened to 4818, and in that case 2 people really wanted it.

Dont put too much stock in asking prices in Ads....

 

I'll see if I can get a photo of it somehow. It's got to be one of the lowest mileage Countachs in the UK.
