The project has been a bit slow going but feel it is starting to pick up again. Since I haven't posted in a while, I will go back in history and show a few pics. These first are from March.
First one is the US turn signals cut out ..... ouch! Next shows the housing fabricated for the new Euro signals. Epoxy primer to 'seal' the whole job.

    Freeman,

This will give you an idea of how the colors will look. Here's a 599 painted in Grigio Ferro. Its part of Ferrari's historic 50-60's paint collection offered on new cars. The interior will be a brick/rust color similar to a Ghia 450SS I saw in Monterey last month. Its close to Ferrari Bordeaux but not quite as red. It's a bit more on the orange/brown side of that makes sense. These colors are very hard to capture in photos. The carpet will be a very dark charcoal.

The options on the seats are:
    1) Original stock pattern (Horizontal lines)
    2) Daytona pattern with black 'stripes'.
    3) Daytona pattern in all the same leather color.

I would love to hear opinions on these 3 options!

Someone has forgotten the holes for the turn signal buttons on the fenders, specially if "epoxy primer to 'seal' the whole job", unless they are not meant to be.

    Regards, Alberto

Always the odd man out here, it seems, but I vote for the more restrained elegant look of the single color standard Dino pattern (option 1). The Daytona pattern tend to look a bit busy to my eyes.

In any case, a terrific choice of colors. This is going to become one beautiful Dino. Very happy for you, Tom.

My guess is they've been templated off 3 original cars(left and right then averaged)!

I did a search but couldn't find anything. Can someone help me with a correct finish on the Dino Front Grille sleeve (the bright aluminum surround)? Is it just raw or bead blasted with a coating on top to seal it? I don't think it was painted was it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I saw one Dino that had the bumpers off and they had what looked like a stainless steel grill surround. It looked really sharp!! I like the daytona seats with the black stripes....this color combo will be gorgeous! Have you considered Campy wheels? I think they look great on non flare cars too! Headlight covers? You are giving me lots of ideas!! Good luck!!

The reference markers that The Surface Master uses are a true sign of perfection!

Tom Kearns is a world renowned and respected automotive designer responsible for Kia's west coast design studio. The new Optima, Soul and Sportage are three great examples that came from him and his team. A great design directer is "hands on" with his team. It is a perfect combination when you have a painter(with experience in a design studio) who understands and can control sufaces/highlights like Steve Kouracos and a "hands on" owner who happens to be one of the best automotive designers and can roll up his sleeves(Tom is working in the photos!) and lay down reference lines and markers. I am sure these reference lines and markers are a team collaboration between Tom and Steve.

    Freeman,
Thank you for those kind words. I have worked with many automotive designers off and on many surface plates in my 30 year career but Tom Kearns is one of the most "hands on" designers I've ever worked with. Working with Tom has been a wonderful experience. It's high praise for me to be selected by such a world-class designer as Tom. I look forward to working on another world-class designer's Dino...When are we going to start your Dino Freeman?
