I dont understand why one cant have BOTH a PDK and manual in the same transmission.
One map provides automatic shifting (shifter and pedal deactivated) and another you use the pedal and shift lever. Sequential shift sequence would make things easier.

    Thank goodness.

A pure sports car needs a third pedal.

+1..When i have the ability to drive a car at 10/10ths,then i'll worry about a faster transmission...

I just got a 997 two months ago, and I have to tell you it was pretty hard to find a manual with the options I wanted. At the end of the day, I can't tell you how happy I am with a 3 pedal car.

Not knowing what year your car is....... treat yourself to the factory short shifter. Makes the whole driving experience MUCH nicer. (I did it on the 2009 C2S I had)

Mine is a 2012 Black Edition Coupe. I was going to wait for the 991, just couldn't wait to have another 911. My last one was an 2008 Coupe that I missed dearly.

fewer 911s are shipping with manual transmissions.
this trend is likely to continue.

Good for them! Just seems to me to make sense -- even if fewer people want it, they still have the ability to manufacture cars with a manual (and I doubt R&D on a manual has to be very expensive), so why not sell both?

Case in point -- my Dad LOVES the 458 but derives too much enjoyment from a manual transmission to give up shifting. So, he's looking more to the Porsche side of things, as much as he loves the Ferrari. I've heard others say the same thing. Why not sell to everyone??

This is exactly why the 991 is coming with a 7-speed manual :) It also means the cost of keeping the manual option alive is pretty minimal. Even if the manually has only a 10% take rate it could still be justified.
