    I was fully aware of what the bills should be and I paid accordingly. :)

    I've always thought the opposite. If the car has just been serviced and is for sale, I'm sure the owner refused those 'while we're in there' repairs because he knows he wants to unload it. I'd rather buy the car without the service and pay for it myself and make sure everything that needs to get done, is done.

    If I'm not mistaken, Daniel said my hoses are shot and I need new ones.

    Car was in Florida - no winters, but not cared for properly either, I promise.

    Thanks for all your help - Daniel (Bradan) always tells me how helpful you are.

    You would think so but the car ran so perfectly...effortless power, smooth engine, no problems (except the clutch). I was shocked at how well she ran. Even Daniel (who got to drive it the day after I dropped it off) called me to say he's shocked at how well the car drives.

    The only thing I did when I got the car was swap the battery and a basic oil change - nothing else.


    Stands to reason - my other bearings in my Mondial were pretty rough too - to say the least.

    Yes. One of the two intake valves in that cylinder does not close all the way. I think it is bent.

    I don't think I have ever seen anyone so happy to know they are going to receive a $15K service and repair bill for a stinking old car! :eek::eek:

    Maybe it was in Florida when you bought it, but i'm still convinced it spent some time in a northern state during its 20 years on the road.

    I totally respect that theory, especially if you have no maintenance history on the car.

    Gotta love those generic crapion OEM plugs... what was Ferrari thinkin?!?!

    Wow, the car ran perfectly with almost no compression and a bent valve in 1 cylinder... and who says these motors aren't bullet-proof??? lol

    It won't wobble when it's under tension. Eventually I'm sure it would seize or fall apart.

    a leak down of 90% in one cylinder would misfire, would it not? How could the engine run so smooth?

    You may very well be right.

    I think I'd be happy if it was only $15 ;)

    for the "MAJOR" that needs to be performed on every 348...I see everyone is quoting $5K or so...but is it do-able by yourself if you know how to work with the engine in taking it apart etc etc..?

    How much would it cost in PARTS ONLY...lets say if I do the work my self..??
    (sorry for dumb question...I'm new here..and I'm looking into possibly getting into a F-Life ;) and 348 is the ONLY one that's in my budget range...

    If a 348 is in your price range, then it isn't the ONLY one you can afford...but it's definitely the best :) Sorry, I had to! I can't knock 308s, 328s, etc. Great, beautiful cars.

    Parts for a BASIC major are not bad at all, but while you have the lump out, it's probably not a bad idea to look at what else needs going over. Chances are something else needs some attention.

    The good news is that it is now in good hands, and the owner is not taking any short cuts and is willing to dish out the cash for whatever is needed.
