That's what I figured. I guess with that steering and those brakes he might have thought it was Ferrari, Lamborghini or even a Jag ...
Hello all: This car was discussed here in the past: 1216 Bought new 1978 by Artie Wiener, Bayshore, New York state. Red, black & tan interior, he bought it from Bob Grossman after seeing one and meeting him at the New York city auto show, he fitted wire wheels and racing mirrors. Later advertised VCM Vol. 6 N. 3May/June 1982 by Wiener. Owned 1984 by Dennis Noonan, Sacramento, California. Ruby red with wire wheels (!), 1st in class at MIE meet 1984 and again in 1985. Advertised for sale VCM #45 January 1986. A friend of mine was going some old French auction catalogs and saw that it had been offered here in France in 1990: see below. Text says it is straight off the boat still on US papers. Yet another US K in Europe though I wonder what happened to it: 20 years undercover means it is really tucked away or no longer extant. Monday saw 2 K's will try to post tomorrow morning. MS Image Unavailable, Please Login
By the way I will be there from tomorrow Thursday afternoon to Monday so any K owners and afficionados let me know by PM that you are coming and we can exchange cell numbers: look forward to meeting you. Marc
A few pics of where we are currently with #409. 1st pic shows the original colour inside the r/h door. Great article on the baby Bizzarini in C&SC last month Marc, very enjoyable & informative. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The adventure has started: brilliant! Please do keep us informed and best of luck, let me know if I can help in any way. Thanks for your kind words enjoyed that Bizza immensely. No Khamsins here in Goddwood but lots of Masers, fabulous day except for the drizzle. best regards, Marc
Hi, Can anyone give me a hint on what type (synthetic or mineral) and grade of lubricant is recommended for the Khamsins? KR Armaz
Hi all, would anyone perchance have a close up pic of the upper front wing (fender) area please? Where it meets the front scuttle panel below the windscreen if possible. Also (big ask this one!) could someone possibly take all 'round pics of the front headlamp cover panels for me please - they are missing on #409 & we plan on making a pair in aluminium (I believe they were plastic originally?) Huge thanks in anticipation, Al & Sarah.
Hi Armaz and Al: Just back from a biiiig French dinner: Will endeavour to answer your questions in the morning when my eyeballs face forward;-) best regards, Marc
Hi Al, A while back Henshaws were listing these items (I presume re-manufactured), I was interested as mine had stress cracks in a couple of places. May be worth enquiring if you wish to keep to original plastic specs. Bal
Hi Armaz Which Lubricant engine gearbox etc? Engeine wise a good Semi synthetic, Be carfull of the new Agip the the replacemnt for the one recomended for the Khamsin is too thin, A friend found this out reciently, as I think its only a 40w. Back to can of worms but I have been using a Valvaline Durablend 15W 50 Rather than a Full synthetic as it has potash in it for cleaning which is important with older style engines. Apparently Potash and catalitic converters dont get on to well Regards Graeme
Thanks Bal, can't seem to access their website at the moment though, so will give them a ring tomorrow. Chees, Al.
Hello all, Hectic travel times so thank you to Graeme for answering Armaz on oil and Al I hope the photos below can be of use to answer your question. On Monday the 12th I drove clear across France to see two Khamsins, first 016 which is being restored ground up by Bernard Guenant's company Carrossimo. I found him the car in Grenoble and it had been a tired, damp and musty old thing now it is being splendidly redone, just see for yourselves. It will be one of (at least) three fully restored Khamsins at Khamsin Quaranta with the ones being redone for Doug in the UK, photos further on in another post, and John in Denmark. Then I drove to this remote castle that had about 8 cars under the dust though the one that is being used the most is AM120162, a car I hade seen at 500 Ferraris agaisnt cancer in june 2010, I posted photos then. He has had it since the early eighties, it had originally been owned by the CEO of Valeo who moved to the US in 1981 and then by a BMW dealer who sold it to him. He is now catching up with his cars having retired so will use it more and wants to come to K40. Here are some detail shots, for the main ones use search function (with chassis number searching by post not by thread ) or see the June 2010 pages. Last but not least 341, Doug's car which is progressing very nicely in the UK, after the repaint in the correct luci del Bosco in April it is being reassembled like a Swiss watch but make no mistake this one like 016 will get driven with glee and enthusiasm! best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Marc, the closest to what I need is post #2716, 2nd pic (sn 162). Attached are a couple of pics of why!!!!!!!! The upper wing area had been filled flat with glassfibre & filler - i.e level to the windscreen & it appears that a lot of the original profile has been lost. Both of these cars appear to have loop pile carpet. Just what was the most common style used in Khamsins? Mine also has loop pile, I've seen literature showing several styles, always wondered what was the norm.
Hi Graeme, Thank you very much for the hint. I will also try to identify the gearbox lubricant available on the market. I do not have a catalytic converter on my car so I am not too worried about that. Thank you and best regards, Armaz
Hi All This is an Aussie delivery that is manual, done 44K and its VIN is AM120421 Engine No. AM1150749421 Regards Graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Graeme, Nice color, underlines the extravaganza of Gandini's design! What interior color? Looks like tobacco, but that dash top should be mouse skin and black, right? Just added a expansion tank to my K, will post pictures later. regards, Bart
Here is my latest mod. Not that it is necessary but I just feel better about having the cooling circuit full when doing long distance travelling. This contemporary tank was a standard option on the Ghibli supplied to hot weather countries and can also be found in Jaguar E-types. It does the job very well. The mounting of this tank is slightly higher than the previous one, therefore there is less under pressure necessary to suck the cooling liquid back in to the main system.
