If you have a 1997 355, you have the 5.2 not the 2.7 Motronic.

Yesterday I got the drivers side Cat installed. Took me longer than I thought. Now that I know how to do it the other side should be a snap. I ended up taking the bypass valve out and the bolts holding the muffler out to get enough room to get the cat out. No major problems. My body aches all over from all the twisting and contorting I had to do. And I didn't bleed too much, just a little. A worthwhile blood sacrifice. I used ramps to get the back end up. The Prospeed cat works great! I am amazed at the improvement I can hear and feel! The fit was fine. No leaks. When my cuts and body recover I'll put in the right side. It was a good test to see if there were any issues. I got about 50 miles on the new cat with no CEL. Really looking forward to getting this completed. I took a bunch of photos. Just don't have my camera with me at the moment. Will post later.

I found that both O2 sensors had many twists in them before removing. Must have been from the Marin dealer when they changed it a couple of years back.Very unprofessional! Too lazy to undue the connectors. That's why I prefer DIY. And I had to do the muffler thing like you said.

You said you had the back end up on a ramp... did you not need to take the wheel off? Did the actual cat removal/install go in from the top or the bottom (or I was assuming wheel well)

The removal is from the bottom. That is the only way. Unless someone knows some tricks. I did not take the wheel off. Not necessary at all. Once the clamps are undone it tilts down at the rear. The end towards the muffler.Titl down and she'll come out. I had to loosen the muffler assy. I needed about 1more inch of clearance. That is super easy to do. I wish I had my camera right now I would download some Pics. I'm at work. I removed the air boxes and the aero pan underneath. Taking the wheels off is more work and would not make any difference in accessibility.

In case anyone is wondering what the copper color stuff is on the thermocouple threading...it's an anti seize compound. Being in the aviation biz, I'm a big fan of the stuff. Replacing the CATS on 355 is not so hard the hardest part is getting to the bolts by the headers. It could be done in 15 minuts if you have the right tools.

I would say the weather here is about as good as it gets. I'm wondering if you received the cats yet? Are they a higher flow? And are you going to do it yourself? Take pics if you can. Have fun.

lOVE THE SOUND. a FEW dB'S LOUDER. Just right. Also I notice it accelerates stronger. Idle is smoother. All in all I'm 100% satisfied. Now I just gotta fix my CV boot that I found wasted.
