I'm not looking to hack or pirate the cable tv company but is there a way to get full HD without the cable box? I already have a box/dvr with my primary tv.

I just added a wall-mounted Samsung (B2330HD) to the office and there's no place/room for mounting a full sized box which Brighthouse says I need.

I searched for a mini dvrless hdtv box and came up empty...

    So what's the solution?

    Thanks

I know Time Warner has the local network channels in HD without a box. None of the premium cable channels are though. If your tv has an auto program for the channels, try that, and see what it finds :D

If you get a TV with a CableCard slot and your cable company provides one, you can get all HD channels on the TV without an external box.

Verizon FIOS does provide CableCards. Not sure about any others.

You can put the cable box on a shelf somewhere out of the way and wirelessly transmit the HD signal to your TV, or run it through CAT5 if it's available.

The CAT5 converter box is about the size of a deck of cards. The wireless devices are a bit larger, but not by much. The receivers for both can generally be hidden pretty easily between the TV and the wall. Both "technologies" fully support 1080p. I own both and they work very well.

My new Samsung doesn't have a CableCard slot although this is an option for the PC (This TV doubles as a monitor, with PIP). The problem is I'd have to boot up the computer just to watch the HD channels.

Yes, I looked at that but it doesn't enable the my favorite channels (SPEED HD, HD Theater, History HD, ID HD, Discovery Channel HD, National Geographic HD, Science HD, Travel HD, etc).

    Here's the over-the-air selection: http://brighthouse.com/static/documents/CFL_PSIP_channel_Lineup.pdf

Thanks Jeremy, this may be the final option but I'll still need to find a place for the "big box".
