Yeah - certainly not good news - this was outside of my 'worst case scenario' as the valve and header issues aren't typical 348 problems.

Yup - the only discussion that took place is if everything quoted was needed or just suggested. It's not like I have a choice (unless I walk away from her, which isn't going to happen) - so whatever she needs, she'll get.

The good news is I have a full list of what we're doing now, I'll post it in a bit.

Fingers crossed that we've seen the worst and it's smooth sailing from here.

    Thanks,
    Erik

    Erik,
While you are at it get the Hill Engineering 5 speed shift plate, it does make a difference.
Do you know about how much all this will cost ?
You are doing the right thing and will be rewarded in the end
    Good Luck

Thanks guys - I do have a price on this and I promise it's more than most people would spend on a car like this (not a pristine 348). Unlike my Mondial (link in my signature) where I document how much it cost me to get it running, I don't have the intention to do that for this car, so I'm going to keep it to myself.

captglen - didn't look into the hill shift plate - I'll look at it today, thanks for the suggestion.

A6GC Champion plugs...... price those out! They are one of the few plugs that work properly in an F40.

Those and the Champion Racing series plugs are light years better in quality than anything else available. The rest of the Champion line isnt suitable for a weed wacker.

I was incorrect in my statement. As was pointed out to me by an experienced tech, this car DOES need the carrier drilling:

I apologize for providing mis-information earlier. So, Dan, ring me if you want the tool sent up on Monday.

Like posted before the car is now in great hands and you will be enjoying it for years to come. BUT this is yet another great example of you get what you pay for in the F car world.
Buying any of these beasts without having some history leads to this going into a simple major service to this undertaking by the new owner.

Great work!! It's good to see a car in good hands.

    A few comments:
    - that engine needs a good cleaning. I bet the gearbox needs it too.
    - If I see correctly in one of the first pictures, you should drill the oil drain hole in the head.
    - judging by the amount of oil everywere, I would dissassemble the alternator and give it a good cleaning. The 348 we're working on would have gone up in flames one of these days!

Yes, it was dripping oil everywere. Even after cleaning and dissassembly! Terrible.
Imagine a spark in the middle of it ...

I'm worried about the one lean cylinder. But that is a good idea to have the injectors balanced.
